• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

At what RPM do you shift on a 988 RSS for mileage

I have a 2012 RTL, which means I have an engine similar to yours with the semi auto 5 speed transmission and 998 V-Twin motor. Your clutch doesn't lock up until about 4000 rpm, so shifting lower than that is a waste of time and will damage your clutch. I shift at 6,000 and cruise at 5,000. I...

What is your opinion on the plastic oil pump gears?

I think if it were a problem we would have heard a lot more about it by this time. The 1330 engine has been around now for 10 years and the 998 for both Aprillia and Early Can Ams much longer and there is no real alarm being sent up about oil pump failure for either motor.

Does anyone leave the parking brake off during winter storage? And some rodent protection discussion...

I always engage my parking brake, and leave it engaged until I am ready to ride again. Never even entered my mind that I should not leave it engaged even during winter parking. After 13 years my cable has not stretched appreciatively.

Have the Past Albums transferred across to the new platform?

I just noticed that any old pictures/albums we had posted on the old forum may not have transferred to the new format. I hope there is going to be some effort to recover those. I know Mike had a lot of how-to info in his albums and as He has passed away he can't repost any of that. Inspector...

PistonBlown, do you remember where you got those from? Was it Harbour Freight?

Have you had your V-Twin's Valve clearance adjustment done? What milage? How long did it take?

I am at 80,000 miles and never checked. I had Yamaha Ventures for 25 years before the Spyder. It uses the same type valve train and over 5 Venturers and 300,000 miles I never ever had to adj valves. This is a very stabil system.

    The bells are finally gone!!!!

No snow in sight here in the land of snow and ski resorts. Going to be a rough year for the skiers. I do miss the bells, but I realize there is a time for everything.

Installing Garmin Zumo R1 Radar - any suggestions on where to run the wire?

drill the hole to accommodate the connector and a split rubber gromet that also fits tight around the wire This will give you a good-looking installation and protect the wire insulation as well. I would go behind the license plate and run the wire along the path that the license plate light wire...

Where can I get a 2010 RT parking brake cable? Any other options?

Kinda late to the party here, it seems you are on the way to solving your problem. Just for information as you already realize this from your scooter shop experience, but back in the day any bicycle shop or motorcycle shop could build cables, instead of waiting for parts to come from England...
