• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I was away for a while.... .... due to the Chinese New Year celebrations, where we pay respect to both the living and the dead, one's usually quite busy during this period.... so far my system is up and running well without the air flow switch, just need to remember to switch back to normal fan...

    fan reversal

Yes it is.... and the above is the modified wiring diagram... straight forward and simple... but the prices of those air flow paddle switches are expensive.... looking for cheaper sources...

    fan reversal

I think I got it fellas.... there is a thing called a air flow switch (goggle it), it's a adjustable spring loaded paddle switch which is installed in a wind tunnel or duct to sense the flow of air, and since it is a switch, it can be directly wired in series with the solenoid of the reverse...

    fan reversal

But what sort of electronic components is required to convert the signals from the sensor to the relay?.... I ok with electrics but not electronics stuff....
  5. Gundam

    fan reversal

My thoughts exactly.... how about an air flow meter mounted in the tunnel leading to the radiator?.... once a certain amount of air flow is reached, the unit can trigger a signal to cut off the relay.... hmmm.... will look into the triggering output of such meters first....

    fan reversal

But how do you tap the signals off the unit? It is a closed system whereby signals from the sending unit is send to the display.... like you said, that guy must have a Phd in electronics to be able to do it... way beyond mine too...

My habit of not having my foot on the brake pedal starts after a few years of driving automatic transmission cars, you need to keep pressing the brakes to prevent the car from creeping forward.... I have worn out one brake master cylinder every two years or less, my current car is more than 8...

    fan reversal

I have read it's specification, they all need signal processing, quite complicated, and you will need proper calibration to differentiate it from the vehicle vibration, unintended movement etc.... it must be something simple to make, installed and maintain to ensure reliability.... do you...

Have you decided which thumb you want to use to press the button?.... won't your thumb be tired in a traffic jam?....

    fan reversal

That's what I'm thinking too but unless this whole system can be bought in one single plug and play unit, the thought of matching and wiring individual components is a big headache.... I will try a different approach.... a different way of sensing the speed....

    fan reversal

Thanks, I appreciate that.... and yeah, in order not to upset the ECU, the signal must be processed directly from the speed sensor, can be done but not easy... using the timer relay is possible, but I couldn't find any details about setting and triggering it, whether it is positive voltage...

    fan reversal

Yeah... you are right, I get it now, after I put it to the test, my bad and my apologies... I was thinking too much on the ideal theory side of things... a speed controlled cut off switch is a must.... I will work on it....

    fan reversal

I have to eat humble pie now.... ...my bad, Magdave, jcthorne and others are correct, sorry guys..... I went out and did a test today, keep the reverse mode on while moving from slow to high speed, and you are right, coolant high temperature limb mode occurred... It's a good thing I also have...

    fan reversal

I have already installed and run this system on my RT for several days now...and I am always watching the temperature gauge during this trail period, the gauge remains stable with no signs of increasing.... if you are worried that you might burn out the fan, then switch back to normal mode....
  15. Gundam

    fan reversal

The fan will not run in the reverse direction all the time, when you speed up to a certain point, the air flow into the radiator will overcome that of the fan and the radiator will cool down causing the fan to turn off...

    fan reversal

Schematic wiring diagram for fan reversal... The above is how I wired up my Spyder for the three modes of operation namely; coolant temperature controlled reverse fan direction, coolant temperature controlled normal fan direction (un modified) and override normal fan direction....the relay...

    fan reversal

If your fan is running while you are moving, then you are not moving fast enough for sufficient air flow into the radiator, that's why the fan has to cut in... the "fixed" reverse position is controlled by the Spyder original coolant temperature sensor, so once you are moving fast enough for the...

    fan reversal

This post is intended to give more insight into my system for reversing the fan.... First, some facts that I have found out... the cooling fan does not turn on when you are riding at medium to high speed, it is quite obvious, the air flowing past the radiator is enough to cool it down... I have...

I will post some photos of my installation and a schematic wiring diagram when it is ready on your thread and also on-going ride report....

Thanks, but I think I just add on to the thread by Stanproff instead of starting a new one, makes reading for others easier rather than jumping here and there....
