• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Winter riding on the new Spyder

Sarah and I took a great jaunt thru some Indian summer mountain roads yesterday. Mid 60s and clear. But today is 15 deg cooler and rainy. Makes me wonder how much time the pretty new Spyder is going to spend on salty, mucky roads this winter. My last two years of college I road my Yamaha 17...

    Spyder alignment adjustments?

I don't really like the idea of putting a heavy V8 in a light car and I know that the US hot rodders like to do this. But don't try to follow me thru a corner with one of these front heavy configurations. I will try to get 160 to 170 HP out of the VW 1600 bored out as far as I can and this will...

    Spyder alignment adjustments?

PMK said "The details of camber and castor are also important. Castor misalignment can have the vehicle pull to one side. Camber is also important, to establish the tire contact patch as the steering angle is turned away from straight. Currently, this is not adjustable and if balanced left vs...

    Spyder alignment adjustments?

Thanks for the excellent info PK, that's about what I assumed just looking at the Spyder setup. My first race car was a Lotus super seven knockoff that raced as a Clubman in Australia. The Clubman formula was based on a front engine 1300 cc rear wheel drive that seated two(in theory). But the...

    Spyder alignment adjustments?

I mentioned this once before but got very little info. What type of suspension adjustments are possible on the Spyder? It looks like toe is the only adjustment that can be made by turning a threaded part. On my racing car I could adjust toe, camber, caster, virtual swing arm radius, bump...

Greasing trailer hitch ball & coupler?

I know that it is recommended and that I should but I rarely do. I presently own 14 trailers and have been pulling trailers long distance for many years and never had any problems with un-greased hitches. But I really should grease them. :sour:

    VooDoo exhaust on my RT

What was the cost? How hard was the install? A sound recording would be good to hear.

what exactly does the nanny do???

Actually I was not aware of how much control the Nanny has. That's my fault, I should have looked closer but I just assumed. I am working on a design to change my Honda into a three wheeler. Reverse may be the greatest challenge. I really like nearly everything about the Spyder. I just hope...

what exactly does the nanny do???

And for those that are comfortable with a computer making decisions for them...that's OK. And as I am learning the handling traits of the Spyder, it is good to have the Nanny backing me up. But ask any expert that is developing artificial intelligence and they will say that computers are far...

what exactly does the nanny do???

And that was exactly what we used for motorkhanas, dirt tracks and rallies...a 1968 Mini Cooper S, fully race modified and a barrel of fun to drive. It did have what might be considered a computer...A Halda resetable tripmeter to accurately measure distance traveled but the driver controlled...

what exactly does the nanny do???

This video was a welcome explanation of how the VSS functions. But anyone that has competed in motorkhanas or dirt track racing would know a vehicle with a VSS would not be able to compete...because hand brake turns, front end throws and over-steer cornering are a required part of the skills...

    It's H*** getting old

Jerry, is that you in the old skydiving gear? That's really old stuff. I know because I still have that vintage stored in my closet. I don't jump it any more but I use it for para-sailing sometimes.

    Winterize

I look at my pickup and cars, all bought new, and undersides severely rusted. I think that even when dry the winter roads still have plenty of salt on them. I'm not riding the Spyder , Dec, Jan, Feb. I may ride the 2 wheeler which cleans easier.

    RT Comp Ratio

What is the CR of the 2014 RT? I've seen 12.2 to 1 mentioned . If that's correct, then that's the reason for high test fuel requirements. i.e 90 octane or better. We were taught that the only advantage to high octane ratings was anti knock in high CR engines. Maybe there are more...

Little Guy 4x7 Deuce Teardrop Trailer

    All the parts

I'm doing the wiring harness today. Seems like a "test" of patience. Getting the bike up high made the sway bar install easy...but I had a forklift to make it easy to lift. Good luck.

    Installing Trailer hitch wiring.

I'm installing the Big Bike Parts wiring harness on my 2014 RT today. 24 separate lines of instructions seem to make this a complicated job! But most of it is just getting "things" out of the way. Any hints on unseen problems? The hitch had 14 instructions also but was really very simple...

    "Missing Belt Guard"

Is there a specific brand and type that does the best job? I'm forced to ride rock roads on a regular basis and I think guarding the belt to the max is the best bet.

    Refused to go into gear.

The key to designing a trike conversion is the rear axle. We used to use a Morris Minor live axle to build Clubman formula cars. We welded on pickup points for trailing arms and panhard rods. This gave us many different final drive ratios and they would stand up to the power of a fully race...

    Refused to go into gear.

I went shopping yesterday and the Spyder would not shift into reverse or forward when I came out of the store. I tried several time and no go. Shut the Spyder down and restarted and it worked fine then. But this is what I hate about computers! I am seriously making plans to convert my 1998...
