• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Old car dash panel - any idea from what?

Looks pretty close to a late-20s chevy truck to me...

    87 gas

Fuel trucks can carry more than one type or octane...they have compartments in the tanks. The distribution centers (tank farms) are where the detergent packages are added for the various customers. ;)

    87 gas

I will add a suggestion, from a mechanic's point of view: if at all possible, use a Top Tier (TT) fuel. This is a detergent and additive package used by several companies which will help keep injectors cleaner and help minimize and (occasionally) reduce combustion chamber, valve, and piston...

Brakes aren't too bad, but looking for feedback on EBC

Good point. And I'll also be getting fresh fluid in the system soon, as I'm sure that it's the original in there right now. Don't need the wifey vapor locking the brakes coming down a 10% grade this summer...

Brakes aren't too bad, but looking for feedback on EBC

Well, I had to throw out the anchor on the '11 RT-S for a lovely family of whitetails that decided it would be a good idea to cross right in front of me (nothing new or surprising: we had at least 85 deer strikes in a 3/4 mile stretch of highway in front of my drive last year). I was initially...

Weather here is hot down low, but up top is still a little...well, I'll let the pics do the talking.

    May's Weather News

I noticed the bison in Custer DID seem rather robust when I rode through a couple years ago... If you ever make it over Sheridan, Wyoming way and want a tour guide or some riding company, let us know!

Fuel economy not as bad as I was led to believe

So the wife now has a couple hundred miles on the '11 RT-S SE5 we got her, and it is averaging 28.5 MPG in mostly 55-75 MPH riding, with a few miles of in-town thrown in for good measure. She has been great about not short-shifting, and keeping it at 5100+ RPMs. So we figure she has about a 160...

What did you do to your Spyder today?

She said something to the effect of, "More fun than beating a cat."

    Hmmm

    Yay! Success!

    Hmmm

    I'ma try a little bigger.

    Hmmm

Can't seem to get pics to post, so I downsized...let's try this.

What did you do to your Spyder today?

The wife went for her first "real" ride on a steep, curvy road with her '11 RT-S. She beat on it like it owed her money. She flogged it like the rented mule of a redheaded step-child. It was glorious!

    Scorpion Battery

I have really come to like Deka batteries. They seem to stand up to vibration and heat better than other brands I've used.

First ride on the '11 RT-S SE5/ report

So rode the wife's scoot back home after picking it up today. Fifty miles of lovely twisty back roads. Between 5100 and 5150 RPM at 70 MPH, and pulled just fine on a nasty steep section simply by keeping it in the powerband and not lugging it. Not rocket science, but I am amazed at how many...

Squeezed the trigger, and have a question

She started on a Vulcan 900 Custom, which turns pretty high RPMs at highway speed, so she'll be fine with the "bark", and she's not NEARLY the speed demon I am, so doubt she'll be hankering for a lot more power. If she does, I'll get some used heads and cams, polish/port and have the cams...

Squeezed the trigger, and have a question

Well, the wife was looking at a Ryker, but we found an exceptional deal on a 2011 RT-S SE5, so we're getting that for her tomorrow. After looking into it, I suspect it is actually a much better choice for her than the Ryker anyway due to where we live (northern Wyoming). Highway speed limits are...

    998cc Changing the shift shaft.

I'm with pegasus1300...a thread file will dress those splines without removing metal like a file or Dremel (which may lead to brittle splines and a much more time-consuming and expensive repair later on). Check the local auto parts stores to see if they rent them...there are typically two sizes...

    Off road with a Ryker

Here in northern Wyoming, we have tens of thousands of miles of gravel and dirt roads that go to some incredibly cool places, so it's a real point in the Ryker's favor that it can handle light-to-moderate offroad work. Just have to figure out how to mount some fishing rod holders and a gun case...
