• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Former RS owner, ready to pull trigger on 2013 RT

S'posed to rain this afternoon, so instead of planning a long ride, I took the Pimpernel grocery shopping. Eight bags of stuff, and there was enough room left over for at least that many more.

    Question about RPM's

I was very glad I had read about the preferred RPM operational range before I rode the RT. It really does perform more smoothly in the 4500-5500 RPM range, and always has plenty of reserve power if you keep in the "zone." :) My old RS had much lower comfortable shift points, it seemed to me. Is...

    Potential RT Limited Newbie Too!

I had been riding bikes for about 10 years when I got my first Spyder (an RS). It was indeed a bit of a learning curve, but after about 250-300 miles on the Spyder, I absolutely fell in love with it and have no desire to go back to 2 wheels. Just today I picked up a '13 RT-S, and I couldn't be...

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

Aaaand, I just answered my own question. No, I will not be any more sedate. :D I really appreciate the OP, particularly the part about not letting off the throttle to UPshift. I had always done that on my RS, but I tried *not* letting off while riding around today, and it does make a HUGE...

Former RS owner, ready to pull trigger on 2013 RT

Oh, heat issue recall not done yet. They have ordered the parts, so that should happen sometime this next week. Meanwhile, I got to go for a RYDE today. And possibly another one tomorrow, and another one on Sunday! And, yes, sumbitch does get hot! It's not a deal breaker, but it will definitely...

Former RS owner, ready to pull trigger on 2013 RT

Went over the numbers with a fine-toothed comb, and this was by far the best deal, especially considering I got another $1K off the price, a free cover, and 4 years worth of extended warranty thrown in to sweeten the deal. IT IS MINE!!!!!!!

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

Right, when manually downshifting (even on the semi-automatic), you don't have to go to full off on the throttle. Never experienced a problem when downshifting manually, only when letting it downshift automatically for me. Like I said, the more speed/revs you are carrying when you initiate the...

Former RS owner, ready to pull trigger on 2013 RT

Sounds like a sweet deal, but at this point I am sticking with buying locally, if for no other reason that I like supporting my local dealer. My loyalty to them at buying time translates to better service from them down the road at repair/maintenance time. ;)

    Spyder Saved us today

Yikes, that would definitely be an attention-getter! So glad you're both okay, and very impressive that the Spydie was able to be ridden home. I agree 100% that if I must have a deer jump out in front of me, I'd rather be on 3 wheels than two!

    Respect for the Spyder

Ah yes, the notorious "Spyder Delay Factor." ;) Never could go anywhere on mine without people asking questions about it. I've had as many as 8 different parties come over to talk to me about it in one stop (busy gas station). Had a lot of great conversations with total strangers that way. I'm...

    Newby with the usual questions

Had an '09 RSS, and zero issues with it (a couple of minor recalls that the dealer handled for me, tout suite). Put ~15K miles on it in two years, and loved every minute of it except, on extra long days in the saddle, the non-ideal ergos (for me) could get a little painful. Been away from ryding...

rid of the chrome like stuff

Me likey! I'm not a fan of chrome-y stuff either. :)

Former RS owner, ready to pull trigger on 2013 RT

I have been talking to the local dealer some more about prices on '15 RTs, and he does have some in stock. Came to the conclusion that I don't really need the RT-S package; I'd be fine with an RT. Going down there tomorrow to sit down with him and do a side-by-side comparo of the cost of buying...

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

No offense taken. I'm just curious as to who assumed that? The manufacturer? Since the "absolute zero" throttle is not a requirement for any other vehicle on the road (2- or 4-wheeled), why would they assume that a brand new Spyder rider would just know? For those of us who are.....shall we say...

How do you ride most often?

Mostly one-up alone, but my preference is riding one-up with another bike or two. Group riding is not my fave thing in general (unless it's the right group, which is extremely rare in my experience), and I have carried a passenger a time or two, also not my fave thing to do. IOW, I like the...

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

Letting the SE-5 downshift for you I saw it mentioned, but wanted to give the thought a little more emphasis. When you let the SE-5 tranny downshift for you, for example, approaching a stoplight, you MUST completely let off the throttle! After finding myself stopped in 3rd or 4th gear a few...

FWIW, my ex-husband bought a bike from this dealer some years ago. The shipping arrangements...

Former RS owner, ready to pull trigger on 2013 RT

Thank you for the info, Mike. Try as I could, I couldn't find any links to the bike in Nashville that you referenced earlier. I will not buy a vehicle through eBay. Period. I'm not terribly keen on buying ANY vehicle, even brand new, sight unseen. Call me old-fashioned. Doesn't mean I won't...

Former RS owner, ready to pull trigger on 2013 RT

Without a link and/or a dealer name, I can't find the referenced advertisement, and I don't want a manual transmission in any case. :opps: One thing I do know about dealers in the western states: they have a pronounced tendency to advertise "loss leaders" and then when you contact the dealer...
