Any time limit on changing HCM filter during oil change? Is a 10 y/o filter good for a few more years?

My wife bought her ‘15 F3-S used 3 years ago w/ ~7K miles on it. Now has ~13K miles. I have not changed the HCM filter myself, unknown whether it was done previously. Am gonna change engine oil/filter soon, but was wondering if there is a problem with leaving the original HCM filter in for 10+ years. Saw the cut-away of that filter posted up by a member here - not much to it. Hate to spend the $ on something that’s not needed. What say ye?

That's my photo of the cut apart HCM filter. The filter is usually a part of the 28K mile service. With your mileage, you have a long way to go before it'll need to be changed. As you know, it's a $125 filter.

Pulled mine at approx 28k. Cleaned it and put it back in. It just appears to be a chunk catcher rather than a typical filter. Yea, $125.

I agree the HCM filter for the 1330 is way over priced. And what you did is probably fine. However, if you cannot show proof of change, it could give you warranty issues. It is important to document all warranty related service (mileage, what was done + receipts) to maintain your warranty coverage.

With removing all the right side body panels being a PIA, I should have replaced it at 4400 miles when I replaced my rear shock :( :)

Ok - question I am asking is … is a 10-year-old filter still good for a few more years? My wife rides about 2K miles a year. At this rate, the 28K won’t come for another 7 to 8 years. That filter will be ~18 years old then, but within mileage specs.

Well, that HCM filter doesn't have a time limit, only a miles limit, unlike the oil - 9,300 miles or 1 yr. So I guess if you're worried about it, give it a change.

Well, if it were me, I'd change it! Have you changed the antifreeze, the fluid in the brakes, the air filter? This is an "old" bike and with the limited mileage that you and your spouse do on it yearly, I would do all the PM that should have been done for two, three, and five year intervals. That way, you know it's been done, and then you can just change your oil and filter at the end of riding every year. How old are the tires? If they're more than 5 years old they should be replaced with a quality car tire, none of that Kenda junk. JMO

Most other maintenance items have been changed, except haven’t flushed cooling system yet. Seems the age of the HCM filter is not a big deal. Thx for the responses.

I wouldn't worry about the age of that filter, as long as you're doing the recommended oil changes. Change it at the recommended mileage.
