• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

22 Spyder RT Brake issues - EBC Rotor larger than OEM & abnormal/uneven pad wear. Does any of this make sense?

My 2022 RT has 16,000 miles and I'm the second owner (recent).
The first owner already had full set of brakes, dealer told him uneven wear but it was "normal"
I purchased new rotors and pads from Lamonster; EBC FA630HH and EBC MD853. Doing my own work

The new rotors are noticeably larger in diameter than the old ones. You can see on all four old pads they only made contact with maybe 75% of the pads! That said I have a big problem. Driver's side front pad is 95% life and the other is bare metal. Passenger side, Both pads are 80% life.
Caliper pistons all move freely. I tested pushing the pads against the rotor with the wheel off, on, and off again. The side with 95% life the pistons never really extended much, barely touching the pad.

I'm thinking my next steps are:
#1 flush brake fluid on drivers side front at home.
#2 Buy and install a brand new caliper

QUESTIONS:
Is it normal that the EBC Rotor is larger diameter than the "OEM"?
Do my next steps make sense?

Something is really looking odd in those pictures,, your pads look like there only making contact with half of your rotor. It's like the caliper isn't far enough over your rotor, or the rotors are too small. So, in your case yes, your new rotors should be larger than your old ones. I think the last owner got the wrong parts!
 
Whoa! Something is definitely up with this! The correct EBC rotor is the same size as OEM. What part # is stamped in that EBC rotor? I would send these pictures to EBC and get this corrected ASAP!

EBC rotor is MD853, which is the correct part. I'm assuming what was on the bike must be the wrong part. The prior owner told me he had the dealer put it on... Not sure why rotors would have been replaced on a 2022 with <15,000 miles in the first place to be honest.

I'm flushing the old brake fluid today. The reservoir has yellow sludge on the walls, so I ran it dry and cleaned, completely bleeding it to get air out now. Old fluid was darker yellow. Hoping I don't have to buy a new caliper, haha.
 
My '23 RTL rotors went South at 9500 miles, BRP said no warranty... I wanted EBC anyway. Any part numbers on the old rotors?? There's not supposed to be any diameter difference.
 
Maybe the prior owner or the dealer installed the rotors from the early '08-'12 models, as they run smaller diameter rotors???

Thats what I was trying to say, I don't think the old rotors are right! If you put the EBC rotor on your bike the brake caliper should slide down over and give you FULL coverage on the pad to rotor! Your old set up obviously didn't! Thats the only way you could get that kind of wear.

Take those rotors off and throw them away!

Does the previous owner have a receipt for them? Were they charged for EBC Rotors?

EBC rotors are clearly stamped. As others have mentioned, those must be 08-12 rotors.

Flushing the brake system is a very good idea. But it isn't going to grow the rotors to the correct size. Whoever installed these needs to be... Well, can't say that here. But I am continually amazed at what some people manage to do to their Spyder.

My '16 RTL has 60,000 miles on it. Should I be concerned, or are the '22 & '23 year rotors bad?
All of the 2008-2012 Spyders use the same rotor. All of the 2013-today use the same rotor (though different from the early models)

None of the BRP, OEM rotors are of great quality. But they are adequate for most riders. Whether or not you should be worried depends more on your riding style than anything else. Riders who destroy rotors usually do it early and often. We had an F3 rider who had gone through 3 sets of OEM front rotors come to us for help. We put EBC rotors on for him and he never had another rotor issue. I've always thought that to be a great proof of quality for EBC.
So, with 60K on your OEM rotors. I'd say you don't have anything to worry about.

There is a lot I could say about dealer shop rates. But it would all be conjecture. My bigger issue is customer service and work quality. High labor rates are tolerable if service is excellent.

We get a good number of first time customers because of our shop rate. But we get more due to customers dissatisfied with their dealership. I don't expect them to come back to us if we don't do a good job regardless of how much they might be saving. I wouldn't.

One thing that is a bit confusing here is that the wear on the pads indicates a smaller rotor. Yet you say the replacement rotor is larger than OEM. Though it makes no difference to the solution, it is curious.

Replaced the bad caliper, new front EBC Rotors, EBC Pads, flush (DIY, not BUDS)
I ordered rear rotors and pads to replace them as well.

I had generic pads; undersized generic rotors (only 2/3 of the pads touched/used); and a broken caliper that only pushed 1 pad. This should be a huge upgrade to my braking! lol!

BajaRon, I bought your sway bar this winter and installed it a few weeks ago. I'm looking forward to trying it out on the road, when brakes are done.
