• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

How many States require a Motorcycle Endorsement for Spyders?

When I turned 16, I rode my motorcycle to the DMV office, and my Dad brought the car so I could take both driving tests at the same time.
The officer giving the tests didn't have to ask how we got them there, he already knew. ;) 🤣 🤣 🤣 :cool:

As never having a motorcycle, in 83 years, I knew I would have to get the endorsement here in Idaho. Ninety eight percent of the motorcycle written test was not applicable to the Spyder and probably all other 3 wheel motorcycle and the other 2% was applicable to any 4 wheel vehicle. The skills test is only given by private citizens in most communities or as DMV said take the Starz course which is not given around here for 3 wheelers. The skills test consisted of three events. The first is a cone weave and normal stop, the second is an obstacle swerve, and the last a "quick stop". Now the written test cost $5 and gives you a learners permit for 6 months which cost $15, then the skills test cost $25 and then a new license with the endorsement for $15.

Took my class last year too. Paid $99 and then extra for the endorsement to be put on my licence. It does not say 3 wheel only even tho that's the class I took. My husband took his 2 wheel class for $275 😭 It's all about the $ 🙄 Ryde safe.
 
Licensing in general has sure changed over the years. When I was first married, and assigned by the Army to El Paso, TX, my 19 year old wife did not have a license or know how to drive. We owned a little VW Beetle with (of course) a manual transmission. We went to the Highway Patrol office where she took the written test so that she would get a Learner's Permit, with our plan being I would then teach her how to drive. The Trooper, when he handed her the Learner's Permit, asked if she wanted to take the driving test. She told him that she did not know how to drive, but he added that she should give it a try and if she failed it cost her nothing to come back again after she learned what she needed. She stalled out over and over trying to learn how to use a clutch pedal and gear shift lever, and the "test" had her never leaving the parking lot. When it was over the Trooper approached me and said "Your wife doesn't know how to drive, but I'm approving her license. Just don't let her out on her own until she learns to safely handle your car." That was 59 years ago in West Texas.
 
In OHIO, if you have a 2 wheel endorsement you are good to go on 3 wheels, but if you don't have a two wheel endorsement, you must get a 3 wheel endorsement, which is not good for 2 wheels... Strange

Sometimes they even wanted to meet said person. And yes, they have written a ticket and then issued the license after the test.
The really funny part is some of the troopers would deem it OK if you rode up with another motorcycle and the rider was licensed, you were receiving "supervised instructions"

This is the same as Minnesota. My wife already had her 2-wheel license, so she was fine for the Spyder. I did not, so I had to take the exam, written and riding, and I received a 3-wheel (only) endorsement.

Just took the skills test a week or two ago from a private party ($25) and the test consisted of the following.
1. Stopping in a small box area without the front wheels touching the lines of the box.
2. Making a panic stop from 12-20 mph in a minimum distance.
3. Making a U turn in a minimum width distance.
I decided that it was time for someone to stepup and question the bureaucratic thinking of my State governent. I wrote a letter to the chairman of the House Transportation and Defense committee. Basicaly I questioned the idea behind the requirement for a 3-wheel only endorsement in that the written test was focused on 2 wheel motorcycles and little or nothing concerning 3-wheel motorcycles. Then was given a learners permit good for 6 months and could be renewed once, vailed for riding on public roads, minus Interstates and nights, without supervision. Then the so called skills test really did not prove you were proficient handling a 3 wheel motorcycle. I suggested that the only license one would need is the basic drivers license. Not sure if my concerns will change anything but hopefully it will benifit those that have to jump through the same hoops.
 
Alabama and Louisiana both require endorsement. I grandfathered in for Alabama motorcycle and power watercraft endorsement, guess they figured if I hadn’t killed myself by now I must be safe enough. Moved to Louisiana and it transferred, no test or anything.
