• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    998cc 2012 RTSE Transmission filter

Since I am currently grounded due to my states no non-essential travel ban I decided that this weekend would be a good time to change my oil. When I removed the transmission filter cap I noticed that the lower bolt seemed loose, and that accounted for the seeping I found under the cap. To my...

    2016 RT Limited CB

I am about to update from my 2012 RT Limited to a 2016 RT Limited. Can I move the CB from the 12 to the 16? Is it the same radio. I do also know that I must get a new CB antenna and cable, are there any better options than BRP?

    Repeated repair problems

Continuing issues Well it appears that the fix the tech did was not completely successful. I have recently gotten a limp home mode naming DPS error and VSS failure on the display. Shutting down and rebooting cured that issue for the moment. The following weekend I got an check engine light for...

    Spyder longevity?

I know the feeling! A good friend of mine, that has a very low mileage 2004 Goldwing, is planning on buying the new Goldwing next spring and will make me a good deal on his old wing. I have also come to the conclusion that I will have to get a newer Spyder, 2004 or newer, as my wife won't ride a...

    Spyder longevity?

I currently have a 2012 RTL which I have been having problems with. That and due to poor service I have lost confidence in the Spyder. My question is how long can one reasonably expect a Spyder to last, and be reliable? Being an old Goldwing rider before this Spyder, wings are renowned for...

    Repeated repair problems

Happy ending I just realized that my earlier post may have been a little misleading. Due to the problems I have had recently, along with a very hefty amount of concern, I did end up trailering the bike on the trip, and then riding at the destination. This is the first time that I have ever...

Check Engine Light with no codes

Thermometer reading The thermometer read a maximum of 97 degrees. The Spyder is now in my garage and the ambient temperature is down to 80 and it is still indicating check engine.

Check Engine Light with no codes

I was out riding today and went about 100 miles, in 93 degree heat. After a short rest stop I got a check engine light. I stopped to check the Spyder out, as best I could on the side of the road, and all seemed OK. The oil and coolant seemed OK, no overheating was evident so I carefully drove...

    Repeated repair problems

Happy Ending (mostly) I just recently returned from my trip out west and while the dealer completed the repairs just in the nick of time for me to take the trip, the repairs did hold up and the trip was fantastic. The dealer, Jim Potts of Woodstock, IL., did make good for the mistakes that his...

    Drive belt squeal?

Belt tension I have not recently checked the belt tension but I will get a tension gauge and check it myself, I did just get a new rear tire early this spring, so the tech at the dealer should have set the tension properly but that is assuming that the tech knew what he was doing and did it...

    Drive belt squeal?

Recently I have noticed a high pitched noise, that I could only describe as a squeal, apparently coming from the rear center area. The sound occurs mostly during acceleration only. As that is the general area of the drive belt I am guessing that it is coming from there but when I asked the...

    Repeated repair problems

That is certainly the case with this dealer. I know that they have had a great deal of turnover recently, the primary mechanic only started in May. He seems to be a nice guy that tries to do the job but that is no replacement for proper training on the products that he is supposed to be servicing.

    Repeated repair problems

Dave: That is exactly the case. I brought it in early March to have the rear tire and rear brakes replaced. Before that, in two years of riding no problems, just routine maintenance. Since the work in March the I have only ridden three times, day rides in the area, and had failures the last two...

    Repeated repair problems

Dealer name I don't want to name the dealer unless the community thinks that it would be good for them. This is not about a rant whereby someone feels that they were wronged and want to bash the party that they feel wronged them. This has already cost me a great deal of money and I have a very...

    Repeated repair problems

Thanks Ann and Pete, I appreciate the confirmation. While I just recently joined I have been reading the posts for over two years and know about your expertise. That is exactly how I feel, the new mechanic that can came to pick my Spyder up on the side of the road did not even know the proper...
