• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Salvage 2008 GS with NO keys - what's the solution?

Whoops, sorry, that was a typo - her's is a 2008 as well. This is why helping this other fellow with his is proving a learning experience that's of interest to me as everything is applicable to my wife's machine 100%. I found the local BRP dealer has virgin OEM DESS units for around $200...

Salvage 2008 GS with NO keys - what's the solution?

Thanks a ton. Some quick Googling shows that there virgin units still out there so I think this would be the solution. I'm tempted to hunt for a magic red key anyways just to have the ability to add at least one extra key to my wife's 2008 (edit, correction), plus have it as a feather in my...

Salvage 2008 GS with NO keys - what's the solution?

Ok great, good news at least as I'm sure he wouldn't be too happy about having to start all over again with the ignition cylinder and already cut keys. So, to be clear, this needs to be a new "virgin" DESS unit, correct? If it's even once been programmed to a key (ie a used unit) it won't...

Salvage 2008 GS with NO keys - what's the solution?

Hey all - I'm trying to help a fellow who is getting an insanely low mileage 2008 GS SM5 (only 4500km, 2800 miles) back on the road. It's a long story, but he's now the legit owner and has done quite a few repairs on it. However, he got it with NO keys. He purchased a new lock cylinder, and he...

08 GS SM5 stuck in gear, code P0730 - easy to replace sensor?

Thankfully not my machine, but if it is a physical transmission issue, well, it's not good. We're going to look into things more Tuesday.

08 GS SM5 stuck in gear, code P0730 - easy to replace sensor?

Yeah, that's what I was worried about. Thinking back on things more and seeing how it was behaving, I think it wasn't going below second gear, which was the root of the issue. BUDS showed it shifting from 2-5 (and same indication on the dash) and the machine was rideable (shifted 2-5 no...

08 GS SM5 stuck in gear, code P0730 - easy to replace sensor?

The machine in question is an SM5 as well, so not being able to find neutral is….concerning. The fact a sensor could prevent the transmission from physically finding a gear vs just being confused about what gear it’s *in* seemed weird, but nothing would surprise me anymore in the world of...

08 GS SM5 stuck in gear, code P0730 - easy to replace sensor?

But did it outright refuse to go into neutral? Just trying to narrow down that this isn't actually an internal transmission issue vs just the sensor. And are we talking a 1 hour job with just some basic tupperware removal to get to the front pulley/sensor and re-and-re, or are we talking a...

08 GS SM5 stuck in gear, code P0730 - easy to replace sensor?

Thanks for the info. What the labor like getting the front pulley off? I went down a little rabbit hole reading some old posts here about the issues with this pulley coming off on it's own on the early year GS's so it might be prudent to check mine as well. When it went bad on you did...

08 GS SM5 stuck in gear, code P0730 - easy to replace sensor?

No such luck here, started, stopped, restarted, cleared codes, rocked it back and forth, even took it for a 10-15 minute ride, problem persisted.

08 GS SM5 stuck in gear, code P0730 - easy to replace sensor?

Hey all - I'm helping a friend with his 2008. Incidentally, it's the 54'th Spyder ever off the BRP line with the special stickers on the handlebar and VIN number to prove it. Anyhow, he had some codes so brought over my BUDS to scan and see what was going on. Codes turned out to be DPS...

2008 GS ball join replacement (Easy, or a total pain?)

Cool. Alrighty that decides it, I'm going to take it up to the old-school shop and see what they can do. Hopefully they have one of the old-school guys in the back take a look and go "hell yeah we can make it work". If I did the same thing day in and day out for decades I might be...

2008 GS ball join replacement (Easy, or a total pain?)

Where did you get it done, a regular shop or somewhere with spyder-specific hardware? As I mentioned earlier in this thread...there's a steering and alignment specialty shop literally 20 minutes from my house that's been around for something like 50 years that does regular passenger...

2008 GS ball join replacement (Easy, or a total pain?)

Thanks all for the info. At long last I got the ball joints done, ordered a set online and did the job in my garage. It took me far too long, but that's a whole other story. I also installed the Bajaron sway bar kit (with the aluminum end links) at the same time. Anyhow, I believe it...

2008 GS ball join replacement (Easy, or a total pain?)

Back on topic, does anyone have any recommendations for sources for balljoints? I see them on Amazon and eBay, but they look to be the same brand for the most part, and I don't now about the ultimate quality thereof. Dealer wants twice the cost for a set of 4 vs online sources and I'm not sure...
