• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Riding Gear Poll

I think that Sport vs Cruiser should be the riding style in the poll, not the type of Spyder. ;)

TT2000 2025 or “Holes, the avoidance of”

I was just so embarrassed by what I'd done that 'Walk of Shame' was exactly what it felt like as I walked away towards the farm house, even though the only observers were some sheep.

TT2000 2025 or “Holes, the avoidance of”

I'd planned my route in Basecamp, which I'd set avoid unpaved roads, and that normally works so well that when I do want to use them, I have to put in a load of shaping points to force it. :) Unfortunately, I'd taken the week off before the event to do some touring and I hadn't bought my laptop...

TT2000 2025 or “Holes, the avoidance of”

Part 4 - Day 3 and Finish Originally I had planned to have enough km’s at this point so I would only need to go to the finish point on Sunday morning, but with the changes to the route on Friday it had left me short. So, I quickly worked out a route with four more halls on it which should get me...

TT2000 2025 or “Holes, the avoidance of”

Part 3 - Day 2 The 5:30am the next morning and I’m back on the bike and heading for the first hall. There’s a lot of riding to do today, and 36 halls to visit, as I head southwards. For the first part of the morning its heavy fog inland but clear on the coast. My route tends to follow the coast...

TT2000 2025 or “Holes, the avoidance of”

Part 2 - Ride day 1 I’m never keen on riding the Spyder in a group of bikes as the way it handles is so different. To avoid ‘the pack’ I’ve added a couple of more obscure halls to start with to let most of the bikes get ahead of me. The first is Runganga Miners Hall, I’d last visited Runganga it...

TT2000 2025 or “Holes, the avoidance of”

Part 1 - Planning There are times when I really wonder if there’s a little bit of my brain dedicated to self-sabotage, and gazing at the backend of my Spyder sticking out of a ditch was one of those times. It had all started so well. The subject of this year’s checkpoints was community halls...

Ever driven your Spyder onto a ferry?

I bought my first Spyder in the North Island (New Zealand) so had no option but take it on the ferry to get back home. Have used the ferries several times since with no problems. Only issue I've had is when some diesel had been split on the metal deck which made my rear wheel keep losing grip...

Interesting conversation at the gas pump - asked why I chose to ride a Spyder rather than 'a real motorcycle'?!

I was at a motorbike rally a while back and I saw this guy wobbling into the gravel parking lot with both feet down on the ground and obviously a brand new bike. A little while later he came wandering over to the group I was chatting with and I could see all his leather gear was brand new as...

Any suggestions on running Gravel and dirt roads on a Spyder?

I've do a lot of gravel riding on my F3L and previously my RS. I ended up making my own aluminium bash-plate for the RS but I've not bothered yet with the F3. I used to find with the RS the pointed nose made it hard to see the road directly in front of the Spyder and the bars didn't suit...

What was your best Upgrade/Add-on to your Spyder???

RS 1st - adding an auxiliary gas tank 2nd - replacement sway bar. F3L 1st - Adding ram mounts just in front of the speakers 2nd - Fuel bladder

Anyone tried a Ramp for the rear wheel to make adding air easier?

We don't have Harbour Freight here. :-) They came from a company called Supercheap Auto here, and a pair cost NZ$39 at the time, that's about US$20 so pretty cheap. Had a look on the Harbour Freight web site and found something identical (though a little more expensive)...

What iPhone phone app do you use to plan & track your trips?

I use MyRoute-App on my phone for day trips and Garmin Basecamp with a Garmin XP for the more complex stuff for both tracking and route planning. Agree MyRoute-App is not as good at routing as the Garmin but I've found it pretty much on parr with the other phone based apps I've tried. They...
