• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Deer vs Spyder

Deer whistle have been proven to be useless and may actually cause an accident. We do have an over abundance of deer here in SC unfortunately if you see one on the side of the road it is best to slow down. I am very careful IF I even ride at night outside the city limits. Coming around a curve not much to do except kiss the tank and hope for the best. Hope you heal fast.

Here is another take from Fred Rau one of the original Spyder 5 developers (incudes Lamont).

Sorry to hear of your Deer encounter. Hope you both recovery quickly. We have large deer herds in SW MO, too. I was shopping for a new helmet, and thanks to your information, now will definitely re-consider either full or modular. Currently have 3/4 because that's what the dealer "threw in" when we purchased our Spyders.

Read my post  I would not trust my life with that. :dontknow:

I saw your post right after I posted mine. Ill delete mine for now. I had a friend that hit a deer and put one of these on his new truck thinking it wont happen again.

Hope you heal well and get a new Spyder soon.:thumbup:

Nothing to do with this collisions BUT:

FYI Safety tip I read in a motorcycle magazine (Rider);

The Deer Caution signs are actually located based on the number of crashes with Deer/game in that area.
The article suggested when you see these signs to slow down by 10 mph, that that reduction in speed may give you a little extra time in making emergency decisions. :yikes:

Sure glad you were on a spyder and not a two wheeler. Hope you both have a comfortable and speedy recovery. amazing how much damage occurs when running into them.. Be safe...[/QUOTE]

Amen brother!

Makes me want to grab my gun and go on a deer killin' spree.

I know we are going astray here but there was a guy who mounted 2 machine guns into the fog light ports on his RS. I can't find a picture of that Spyder but it looked pretty cool. Probably work better than Deer Whistles.

I sold a Yamaha FJR a few years ago to a Canadian rider who wanted to replace his older model of the same bike. He had been riding with his wife on the pillion, and sliced right through a deer! Never fell, or had any injuries, but bike was trashed! Just goes to show!

glad to hear you guys are mostly ok, spyders can be replaced. Living in upstate ny deer are a big concern up here they are everywhere

The answer is longer hunting seasons and larger quotas. Deer have become vermin. Allow hunters to harvest as many as needed. The meat can be donated to shelters and other organizations helping the poor and needy.

I read both links and agree that whistles do not work. However I know of something that works remarkably well in the proper hands - a 30.06. Deer are vermin.

Glad you're both okay. Seen/heard of about a dozen Spyder/deer encounters and everyone walked away in each.

Another testament to the increased safety of the Spyder.

Deer Horns

Wow! Glad you guys are OK! Hope you have a quick recovery! Not sure if they work, but we put deer horns on our Spyder. So far, so good. We also use 3/4 helmets.

I have Deer Horns on my Spyder and I have yet to see a deer while riding. I see plenty when in my truck w/o deer horns. My wife and I also use 3/4 helmets.

Don't Let The Deer Win

Spyder won and riders survived! I have fractures face and wife has major road rash on face and concussion. Mistake to let her talk me into 3/4 helmets, but overall ok.

There is no reason that your RSS can't be fixed and enjoyed again. Don't let anyone tell you that it is totaled. Make them install the necessary parts to let you triumph, instead of letting the deer win. Get full face helmets and know in your heart that you didn't let this stop you. I'm praying for your recovery.

So glad you are both alright and praying for a quick recovery!! We also hit a deer with our Spyder (2012 RT Ltd) 2 years ago, June '13. We were on Interstate, going about 65 mph, a deer came up out of the median. Had just enough time to square up the handle bars and hit the brakes. I was driving and hubby was passenger. It was about 9:15 pm, later than we like to be out on bikes. I hit the deer square on in the side, it flew up and over us, landed about 20 feet off the shoulder, in the ditch. We had 3big cracks in the frunk lid, loosened up the mirrors and scratched up the spoiler, but we walked away and drove it home. About $1600.00 in damages and insurance took good care of us. We did put the deer whistler alarms on, don't know if they work but thought for $2.99, can't hurt!! Y'all take care and Ryde safe!! We also ride ATGATT.
