• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Show off your riding gear

Too much gear to show. Have leather, textile, mesh, and 6 assorted Nolan helmets. My jackets cover two 6 ft. clothing racks in the garage.

I have pulled the armour out of the stuff, because I do not like the bulk of it. Have a large box of just assorted armour pieces.

I do believe in ATGATT and most of the time I comply.

Well, I'll post a pic of me in my gear. I think it's pretty much well hidden. People expect to see riders wearing a jacket, helmet, gloves and boots. My Kevlar and knee pads are pretty much hidden. Dianese makes there gear very streamline so I don't look like Robocop wearing it.

When somone asks me why are you wearing the armour your on three wheels and you are not tipping over , my answer is I'm not worried about going down on my Spyder like a two wheeler but I figure if I'm in an accident I'm going to be launched and the gear will lessen the road rash , Dress for the SLIDE not the Ride .

Lots of bad things can happen on a three wheeler. Mostly a high side.

I also notice people on scooters don't wear much gear if any. They seem to assume that their small bike means they can't get hurt as bad as on a motorcycle. I mean, a forty mph slide is a forty mph slide if you are on a big Harley or a 50cc scooter.

I just upgraded to the Klim Induction Jacket (Karbonite mesh and D3O armor) and I wear a Shoei RF100 full-face helmet. I use tactical shooting gloves (for the tactile feel). My lower body changes based on the weather... sometimes tennis shoes, other times Vasque hiking boots.

I recently heard, and saw it again on this post... dress for the slide, not the ride... like it!! Rider protection is a personal preference... I know guys that wear none because when they wreck, they want to end it... I'd like a bit more chance of survival! I've died once... why invite a second time!!

The pic of it on the bike in my signature is pre-mod. I did it last weekend.

The dog is laughing over behind the fence.

my dog is not laughing.. she wants to go riding too... laugh if you want... if you ever slide down the highway you will understand the good lord did not intend skin to slide on asphalt ... skin grafts start at $10,000.. I have rode motorcycles for 45+ years.. so I understand the risk & I am smart enough to protect my body.. I would not mind dying ... if it was not for so long !!!!!!

ATGATT

Having suffered a brain injury in 2001 which left me permanently disabled, getting back to riding came with some conditions. I always wear a helmet(for obvious reasons) Joe Rocket Ballistic hi vis jacket, armored gloves(mesh for summer and full for cooler) ballistic pants or kevlar jeans (when it's warmer) and sidi boots. Overkill? Perhaps. But that's the deal I made with my wonderful wife and kids. Oh, and I have plenty of money invested in tattoos that I really like to keep looking awesome.

You speak truth. If it doesn't have armor, I won't wear it. As was said earlier, any accident involving a Spyder is a pretty much a high side.

Here is an old post that anyone who does not wear the proper gear should read:

http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?32011-Phantom-540-Accident-Roll-over

"The point of my posting is to let you guys know it's okay to wear full gear. Even if your family and friends make fun of you. Even if you ride a Spyder which is a bit safer than a bike at times. Even if people tell you it's too hot outside for gear or you're taking a trip around the corner.
My full gear saved my life. I can kiss my wife and 7 year old daughter tonight because of my gear." - Motavar

I am taunted by people @ work about why I'm wearing a snowmobile suit. I have an HMF modular helmet, some armored and other not armored gloves, heated gloves and vest for those cool 50 and below days and a one piece armored riding suit.

As Rogue Hawk, Easysuper and Akspiderman have pointed out accidents happen, and you are going to slide if you are dislodged in an accident. Road rash is not fun. If I could predict when I'm going to get in an accident then I would only use my gear at that time. I just don't bounce nearly as well as I did when I was 21!!! ATGATT

People should wear whatever they feel comfortable in.
However, If your in an accident on the spyder it's more likely going to be an impact crash type of thing, not a slide.

Deer kill

My last deer kill was in the middle of the day at 55 mph. One dead deer, one dead Goldwing, I am still here. Folks the gear works! Oh yeah The count is 2. First deer kill was in 2009.

Indeed it very well might be an impact crash. Where will your body go after the impact? There are no doors or roof or air bags or seat belts to keep you in like a cage. You will either be pinned to the bike... and that will be horrific... or you will get launched. If you get launched, you have to land somewhere and when you land you will slide. Physics ensures you will slide.

You are correct when you say that "People should wear whatever they feel comfortable in." But people also have been known to piss on electrified fences. Not such a good idea.

I honestly cannot figure how anyone figures how a spyder is any "safer" in an accident than a motorcycle. Other than a accident at less than 5 miles per hour there is no difference. None. if you want a good subject lesson listen to this women (not in english sorry) ...

I wear a custom painted Shoei RF1100 helmet (see below); Tour Master Cruiser 2 or Olympia 410 gloves, depending on the weather; hi-viz shirt, sometimes with my patch vest (and any needed layers); and jeans. I no longer wear boots because, quite frankly, I can't find any that will fit my large, mangled feet/legs comfortably enough to wear. If someone came out with a zipper boot that would fit over a mis-shappen size 13 eeeeee foot and ankles/lower legs that are mostly scar tissue, I'd love to hear about them.

My trusty 22 year old Hein Gericke armoured leather jacket. Shoei Air-GT, Arlen Ness boots, unnamed gloves, rain-off gloves for winter.

Okay, here goes. Glad to see that I'm not alone in wearing bulletproof gear. First Gears Kathmandu all weather pants and jacket with a Shoei GT-Air Helmet with Sena S20. A pair of Alpinestars Roam 2 waterproof boots. Just gotta learn how to ride the bike and I'm set. uploadfromtaptalk1431543051251.jpguploadfromtaptalk1431543066661.jpg

I would like some of the bigger riders to chime in on what they are wearing ? Like the 5-6 X folks ?

Protective riding gear for large riders is virtually not available. Bilt makes a 5X jacket....ordered it and it is more like a 3X, smaller than my Firstgear MeshTech 4X.

I am resorting to jeans and a jean jacket at this point....better than nothing.

It is a shame too. As some of us get older, have various health or physical issue...we unfortunately gain weight. There is a market for large riding gear but unless you go to a custom leather shop......I cant find any available.

Comments........:spyder2:
