• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New Vendor- GloRyder

GloRyder Wheel lights

The police I have talked to, said, that if it is not a red or blue light flashing in the windshield area, you are not trying to look like the police or emergency vehicle, I was told , that in TN if you can not see from the front of vehicle, no problem.:ohyea:

(For those of you I have not met yet, my name is Lance. Kurt and I are brothers that co-invented the GloRyder together. Either of us may jump in from time to time. I'll sign at end to differentiate.)

By the way, ExtraCool, the pic of your bike looks great! I also love the forum. Looks like you guys are trudging the same path of thought Kurt and I had when developing this in the years before it went public.

I cannot help notice the legal/illegal question that comes up from time to time. So maybe this will help, as Kurt and I had this as a major point in design when we were developing years ago.

We did alot of research on regs in discussions w/ members of: California and Florida Highway Patrol, D.O.T. and numerous officers of different counties and states before finalizing design. Their input caused us to avoid some critical areas and modify for others. It may be also of note one major international chain's legal dept. subjected our product to intense scrutiny on legality:spyder:.....and then they placed the order that primarily launched us in a big way. (Why I cannot mention them in the same breath as their legal dept. is beyond me but, they have over 2000 stores in the U.S. and out. I think I am safe w/ that.)

In short, I will personally vouch that I have had two whole reports relayed to me of tickets since their first debut on cars nearly 3 years ago. Two different reports relayed to me were that an officer pulled them over...because he liked them and wanted an up close.

Does this mean I have heard every report? Obviously not, but I am usually one of the people they come to first.

Does this mean that some individual county or state might not have some reg.? Sure. On the other hand, consider any street rod on the highway, depending on a a county or state they run through: the emissions, the horsepower, the modded tailights, ground clearance, custom bumpers, the mufflers etc... any one of these might not meet a reg. in one place or another. However, America is the land of the street rod over any other place on earth, last time I checked. In the end, good judgement and balance usually are respected by all. If I ever found a county that asked me to turm 'em off, I would. However, that simply has never happened to me or Kurt....ever. I think Kurt has nearly 6-7 years of road-testing under his belt w/ no issues other than "when can i get them?"

I will also mention this for any who think this is simply a new bling idea. A cool piece of American car lore in the infancy of development: There was a time in the very early development of the car that lighting of wheels was seriously considered a good idea for safety (broadsiding, intersections, etc..). They just couldn't do it properly back then........until now. I think even LaMonster made a comment about amber running lights earlier. He was alot closer to the mark than some may have thought.

You also might get a kick out of this one from last week:

An officer earlier this week asked if we could get the Chief of Police a demonstration of the GloRyder. He saw them on patrol and thought they were great. He was surprised when I told him that it was his chief that was among those that gave me and Kurt pointers back when we were developing. The Chief likes them, but we would still have to develop for integration w/ their light systems. Another one for the to-do list.

Hope this helps.

Regards to all the Spyders!

For those in MD
On April 8, 2008 Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley signed Senate Bill 713 authorizing the use of certain auxiliary lighting on motorcycles.
Effective June 1, 2008, Maryland motorcyclists can legally ride with light emitting diode (LED) pods and strips on their motorcycle, provided they do not blink, oscillate, or flash and are not red or blue, as these colors are reserved for law enforcement and emergency vehicles. That leaves amber, green, hot pink, jade, orange, purple, and white.
Too many car-motorcycle accidents are the result of the car driver not seeing the motorcycle. This is particularly true at night. Motorcycle accent lighting can change all that. With the proper products and installation, motorcycles can become highly visible from significant distances.

Lance, welcome to the SpyderLovers website, you and Kurt have a great product, I was a little worried that they might effect the wheel balance, but can not find any difference at any speed, good work.:2thumbs:

Thanks for the welcome! And am glad of their performance on your bike as well. I saw your earlier post about folks coming up to you. I too was surprised how often it happened first time I mounted them.

Lance

Any way a set can be created like the NMN Wizard Lights. THat change colors or you can set them to the color you wish? I think these would be a great add on to my wizard lights :D

Thank you for your question zzneonzz,

Almost every variety of prototype finds its way to our table. However, as for lights that are rotating color in realtime, they are usually defined as a "flashing light" effect. It is something we have endeavored to steer clear of in our street designs as we believe this is something considered undesirable for road use... i.e. emergency vehicles etc... (Shows and contests are another matter, we realize and we have made some very specialized models at various times in our past.)

If one does simply wish for another color we have created replacement boards that allow you to put in whatever color you choose.

Stay tuned, however, as there is work constantly being done here at Gloryder and eventually it will find its way to release.

Hope this helps.

I can understand that as far as the rotating colors in real time. I rarely have mine rotating while on the road but it is a nice feature to have for show and even if it just incorprated the addition lights in a select fasion that would be a nice touch as well.

I tend to change the colors after stops as i'll get tired of seeing lets say blue so when i stop for food or something i'll change to Green and so on.

How easy are the boards to swap out if someone decided to go that route to change the colors?

Very easy, pop cap off, loosen two screws and board clicks out and the other in. About 60 secs. at most. 30 secs. for me.

There are some pretty fascinating prototypes here. We keep getting more requests in like yours and we will have to see.;)

Using your photo

Hey Doc, mind if we use your photo in our gallery? The Spyder looks great in Blue!

I have an unusual question, for a Spyder site. I have a Boss Hoss Trike which has chrome American Racing Torq-Thurst rear wheels, which has a center cap held on by 5 hex head screws. Do you have a set that will fit this, only need two. Also do you have anything that will fit the front wheel.

Hi Wayne,

Interesting question that I have no ready answer for as I cannot recall that particular wheel. But...I do have something that will help. Go to the gloryder site and we have a guide there that should answer your question on what wheels it will fit or not.

Obviously, if it is like your Spyder wheel then no prob.

There are over 250 bore hole sizes out there in the industry for wheel centers, and though we fit most there is always another surprise out there. (Something like a phillips screw and then they have flat, hex head, torx, allen, etc... all for the same thing.) Hope they standardize a little bit more one day. My dream...

Lance

P.S. Almost forgot your front wheel question. In short, nothing at the moment. I can tell you it exists but is not released yet. As demand increases, though, I am sure that it will eventually find its way to release. ( It has been related to me that some people have made their own fitings and mounted them themselves however. Self evident, of course, that would have to be their responsibility and good judgement.)
