• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ride ended abruptly today

So with weather in the 80's we headed out for lunch. I stay back on the Harley and follow my Girlfriend on her RSS since she gets all the attention. Well we park at our favorite place right in front, that way I can keep an eye on our bikes. She wanted to back in the space when we hear a load THUNK sound along with a rushing stream of green coolant follows the grade of the parking lot. So out comes the tools in the frunk and I pull off the right side Tupperware. Could not see a thing, hoses look intact which is what I thought it was because how fast the thing drained.

So now I have my wallet out looking for my Good Sam card. Tow truck on the way..45 minutes later we are on our way to a dealer 13 miles from us. Their "Spyder tech" is off, but the service department is open. Girlfriend jumps in with the tow truck guy and I follow on the Harley. Unload the Spyder, filled out paperwork, still under warrantee and was told there is a recall on the software, so they will do that as well as find the leak. Will call me in next week. Bike has all but 1,600 miles on it. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1417312417.700965.jpg

these breakdowns are wearing on me.. i'm ready to trade mine in for a URAL.. AND TAKE A LOST.. THIS IS SILLY .. no machine should have this many fooPaas..

It's bad when stuff happens, but good that it is under warranty. Hopefully your excitement is over once the dealer repairs the problem.

why should they have to? If it's done right to begin with there should be no problems , what so ever.. olde bmw rider here ,, spoiled as far as expecting machines to work with no worry

:agree: My money is also on the reservoir busting a gut. Easy fix. Sorry for the messed up day.

Bummer..!!

sorry form the interruption...nice you had a fast pickup to the dealer. Should be easy to find the problem. Hope you don't have alot of down time.. :banghead:

Even Beemers have issues - 3 center stands and one rear bearing in two years and 30K miles... each of the center stands were $1100

Hmmm had no idea about a faulty reservoir. Thanks that makes me feel a little better that it may not be so serious. Just hope my extended coverage covers whatever. Western insurance was purchased through my dealer in 2011.

Sounds like you have had a lot of issues with yours?

GunDoctor,
Sorry to hear that your ride got cut short...
This should be an easy fix for them, and you guys will be spinnin' and grinnin' again in no time! :D

JScotD,
There's nothing that man can build; that he can't put together wrong at least once in a while...
Nobody likes problems with a new vehicle; but they do happen...

Even with Beemers! :D

If I was in a mean mood, I would suggest selling the Spyder and buying a GM Vehicle. However, I have way to much fun on my Spyder, so I will just go ride some more and be quiet

Having had a couple of friends who bought and rode new BMWs, one of whom is a BMW mechanic, I do not agree with the assessment that BMWs are the most reliable motorcycle.

Yeah... Beemer bikes as the flagship for reliability. :roflblack:

Honestly? I think that, for the most part, Spyders are an exceptionally reliable *design*. Meaning, when it works, they really work. Many folks here can attest to never having anything out of the ordinary happen to them, the only problems the usual ones to be expected from a high-performance machine.

That said, when the Spyder goes wrong, it really likes to go wrong. Sadly, more than one Spyderlover has suffered a lemon in my time here, often compounded by lackluster dealer service (others have had *fantastic* dealer service... again, all kinds here).

Bottom line: no motorcycle ever made will be as reliable and trouble-free as a Toyota Camry-- or as boring! :joke:-- but I'd say the Spyder is probably in the upper middle of the reliability band, it's biggest risk factor being that when you *do* get in trouble, you're more reliant on the talents and enthusiasm of a specialized dealer network than almost any other brand motorcycle.

This reminds me of an exercise we did in grammar school. Whisper a short sentence to a group of kids in a circle and by the time it comes back around it is totally different. My radiator breakdown turned into a BMW commercial...lol
