• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Poliaris Slingshot

They look really cool, but I can't see any kind of competition/comparison with a RS/RSS. I would think it would appeal to the RT crowd IF ANYTHING AT ALL because this is a "farkle" dream car. Of course I don't have any numbers or facts, just opinion here...but I would think most RS owners might want a smaller Spyder that is faster but wouldn't want to get a car(which is how this functions, regardless of 3 wheels instead of 4) nor a larger Spyder for that matter. I imagine this vehicle will appeal to the guys/gals who have a "toy" collection and have the extra income to try all of the new cool stuff. And I hope some of you fall in that category so you can show me pictures and video because it does look cool. I guess perspective has a lot to do with any opinion. Mine is based on how a large majority of 2-wheelers look at Spyders(specifically in the M/C community). Luckily Spyder riders have there own community BUT I am one who is working to integrate two and three wheelers with the same passion versus have us all go to our own "separate but equal events"....So adding a seat-belt and steering wheel will not help my plight. lol

slingshot

There is an article in Fox News.com today the slingshot is 1700 pounds and has a glovebox. I'll stay with my :spyder2:

I agree. This is for people who have money to spend and love having toys even if they don't drive it much.....lol.

This is weird what I'm about to say..... I know that it doesn't compete with the spyder.....but I find myself putting this up against the 2015 RSS for what I will buy next year. Now I know on paper, these two aren't even in the same league, but I'm falling into a category that pitts them against one another. Hmmm.......why? Is there a group that just likes open road vehicles and doesn't care what platform it's on???......if so, I may fall into that group.

I'm wondering if there will be others like me......or if I'm just a weird exception......LOL.

I like the SlingShot. I'm not sure I would buy one but I like it. The price is better than I expected. I don't really think its in the same "space" as the Spyder. It's more like a car than a motorcycle. I'd say it may compete with an RS/RSS but not an ST or RT. I did sign up for a test drive. Probably drive my Spyder to the test drive. :)

Here is what I REALLY like about the SlingShot. I think its going to force BRP to change up their thinking on the RS/RSS Spyders. The SlingShot shows what a fun sucker the over protective nanny is on the Spyder. The Polaris version of the nanny gives the driver/rider more fun freedom than the Spyder version. The Polaris version can also be disengaged. BRP is going to have to lighten up the nanny controls and make it able to be disengaged if they want the Spyder to win over a potential SlingShot buyer. Also, look at the touchscreen package on the SlingShot. Far and above the gauge package on the Spyder. Don't forget the power. 173hp. No reason BRP can't drop more power in the RS and RSS versions and again I'd say if they don't the Spyder is not going to win over a potential SlingShot buyer.

Not sure what the 2015 RS, RSS holds for changes but if it doesn't have more power and less nanny the RS/RSS buyer might be moving to a SlingShot? I think a leaning RS/RSS in 2015 would help bring a buyer to a Spyder over the SlingShot as well.

Things might get interesting over the next couple of years...............

I agree 100%.

it's not weird at all. All of us have our own reason for riding or driving whatever we have. For example, a lot of my 2 wheel buddies say to me "you can't lean in a curve" and while some of you are thinking about how much fun you have in a curve, I am thinking "who wants a curve????". If I had my way I would only drive on major or at least well lit highways with lots of sights. Too much open land will make me sleepy. I want to drive over bridges with large pools of water. There is an audience for everything, and you may buy the same thing as another person but for a different reason. Good luck!

:agree: I think that the right scenery can be marvelous!
In fact; I ride past where the Olympic Bikini Championship Try-Outs are being held, at every opportunity! :D

 She's not behind me; is she?

Thanks. I want to have fun and enjoy things (while we still can in this world). So regardless of people saying this slingshot is pointless, I see some fun in it. :D

What is brp waiting for?

I personally like to lust after my next new toy for awhile and rationalize why I should have it.
Lol.

Different in many ways

I find it most curious that anyone who owns and rides a Spyder would be so intrigued by the Slingshot. It is a car that you drive, not a machine (like a bike, sled, ATV or PWC) that you RIDE. This is a very different interaction between the driver/rider and the vehicle. Far less interactive for the rider, you can just sit there, shift and steer. Do that on a Spyder and it takes so much away from the experience, at least for me.

Sure it will be fun as hell, especially for those who used to race/drive go-karts, low cg and super wide stance, sure to rail around the corners. But will other vehicles be able to see you? That might be scary.

Why three wheels? Likely to escape federal crash standards for a 4-wheel vehicle. And all other laws regarding 4-wheel vehicles. This will be considered a motorcycle.......curious to see how the helmet laws play out in each state. I sure wouldn't be in one without a helmet!

The comment about this vehicle causing BRP to loosen their grip on the nanny fails to consider the vehicle differences - the Spyder is MUCH narrower so the Spyder will lift and tip far easier. The nanny is set the way it is to keep you from flipping on your head! So you can just forget about getting rid of the Spyder nanny, foolish wish. It is there for a very good reason. To keep you alive.

I did not catch the part about being able to turn off the stability control on the Slingshot. This might pose many issues, other than people getting in over their heads - curious to see how this pans out. Might tend to spin out instead of flip over, that would be nice, no fun to have a 1700 pound machine land on you, bad deal, even at 700 pounds.

The Slingshot pricing is lower than I expected, my guess was $30,000. Seeing how it is Polaris, I believe they will sell a boat load of them. Personally I see it as an even more dangerous machine to be out on a public road with than a Spyder, but that is what thrill-seekers want - danger - and adrenaline. This machine should satisfy them on both fronts. So far one has to applaud Polaris for doing something fairly different - not that a machine like this hasn't been done before, but nobody with a track record like Polaris and the resources of Polaris has done it. Now, for their sake, let's hope the thing is ready for mass consumption. They have had some miserable product launches over the past ten years or so, at least with sleds, so maybe they have learned their lesson with this new market.

Fun to watch.

I want one. I can drive it on Sundays and Mondays and Tues.....

I can Ryde on those days too.

I NEED one. To sit next to my beloved Spyder!

Spyder's Friend!

I can see how having this AND the Spyder can be the ultimate Toy's R Us in the garage. Want to ride like a motorcycle today with the handlebars....ok get on the spyder. Want to ride it in a car like fashion, get on this. I see Polaris and Can Am as complements to the industry on this, instead of competition.

The Can Am dealer I purchased my spyder from new also sells the slingshot now. I wonder how many other Can Am dealers also sell the Polaris slingshot.

What I find interesting is that on its website Polaris says that the Slingshot is a "motorcycle", not a "car." It doesn't have airbags and other things cars have to have. At the same time BRP calls the Spyder a "roadster", not a "motorcycle."

Ah, well.

It looks pretty neat and I don't think it will actually be competition for the Spyder since they're ridden in totally different ways. But what do I know?

Well, I do know I won't buy one. It looks like a lot of fun, but with my legs there's no way I'm going to try and get in and out of that thing. I'll stick with the Spyder. I do think they'll sell a lot of them, though, and I think you'll start seeing them at a lot of road courses for use in track time.
