• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. About to be a new Spyder owner......please calm me down!

Hi everyone,

After a couple years of looking at the Spyder and being very intrigued, I have placed an order for a 2014 RS-S SM5. While waiting for my loan processing paperwork to be completed I have been reading a lot of threads on this forum and others. Now I'm starting to question my decision about selling my motorcycle and going this route. It seems like 2/3 of the threads are about problems, recalls, or being stranded because of the machine breaking down. I was and still want to be excited about this purchase, but now I have way too many negative thoughts in my head. My past recreational vehicles have all been very reliable, so I'm not sure I'll have much patience if I continually have problems. I realize any man made machine can have problems, but they seem to be excessive on the Spyder..........or am I being paranoid? Is it just a case where only the angry owners or people looking for help post threads and it is actually a very small minority or should I reconsider my choice and go back to a motorcycle? Please talk me off the ledge.....haha! Thanks in advance for your replies!

Relax, get your ride and enjoy. Yes some people have problems but for the most part they are trouble free. We have 13,000+ members and no where near that many complaints. I have had 4 spyders, 1 rs and 3 rt's. No major issues at all. In fact hardly any minor issues either, I just get on and ride.

I think it's a minority that has problems. The ST is a new model for last year so it is going thru "teething" issues, but the others seem pretty solid. If you go on any forum (like the BMW one), you will see the problems and not the good things. People without problems have no particular reason to post, they're out riding

:welcome: The ones that write about their issues make only a small number of the owners out here. Their numbers seem big because they use forums to vent, and they have a right and reason to do so. But for us that own and enjoy our Spyders, we are here, but not posting as much as we are out there riding!

Go for it and let us know how it goes! We are here... good or bad!:firstplace:

Not to worry.....I bought a RTs 2013 last yr....rode it to Pennsylvania from Montana without any problems...traded it in with 11,000+ miles on a 2014 RTL. Left for Missouri with 200 miles on the speedo ... We now have 3500+ We are ready for our first service....it's running great..and plan to leave for Colorado next month.......

other than tire tire ware, and scheduled service....we have been trouble FREE.....

Quasimodo:yes:

Ok now, take 3 deep breaths and try to relax. I think the new 2014 RT have finally got it right and hit a home run. If I hadn't purchased my 2012 RTS in March of 2013, I would not even hesitate to buy the 2014.

Not to worry - you are purchasing a 2014. I only have 1700 miles on it, but it has been without any issues and is a great machine. My 2013 had some heat issues as others, but it never left me stranded.

You are going to love the 2014 :yes::yes:

Relax..!!

If your looking to be healty, fit and active you don't go to the hospital waiting room to find it...this is an amazing site and worth its weight but not the place to inspire confidence. Once you understand this and see that here you will find help with any issue that may come up the more you can see how good a machine you are getting. Many problems are self induced some are outside product issues and some are manufacturers problems. If you see there are almost 14,000 members of which only a few are posting here. This means the rest are out enjoying the ryde....you made the right choice your going to love it and just so you know the GS/RS/RSS are the least mentioned here..:roflblack:

Relax and take a deep breath. HUUUMMMMMM :roflblack:
If you count the number of problems (those are the ones that get posted most) and compare to all the trouble free miles people have put on their Spyders...
I'm on my 2nd RT and I haven't had one issue with either.

:welcome:and :congrats: and enjoy your :spyder2:. You meet some many nice people that own :spyder2:'s.

I have a 2012RTS-SE5 I love it . When life gets so crazy, I just get on my :spyder2: to clear my mine, and ride. I have not had any major issue with my 2012RTS-SE5. Deanna777

1 This is the reason that I am still sitting on the sidelines. The lack of support from BRP concerns me, especially the heat issues associated with previous model year Spyders. I understand that the 2014 models appear to have addressed these issues. But, if this is such a magnificent machine, why do you have to install an aftermarket stabilizer bar and a device to takeout the belt hop? I mean 30K plus for a toy you would think that they concerns would be taken care of during production. Maybe I'm wrong in assuming this, but these concerns are keeping me from buying what appears to be a very interesting mode of transportation.....:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

That was my complant with my last Harley. I spend all that mony and then have to spend over $2,000 to try and fix the heat issue. Looked at going to a Goldwing, but looked like I would have to spend $$$ to fix the low speed wabble that I was reading about. I also thought it needed a six speed when I test road it.

As for the RT needing a larger sway bar - it dosen't. You only put that on if you feel you need to because you are trying to get the max handling out of it. The belt hop doesn't bother me as I feel it is very minor so I do not have that and I would need to ride one that has it on to see if it does help. You could purchase a 2014 RT and not do anything to it and be happy, but most people (including me) like to modify their ride to fit there riding style.

I have had a GS/RS and now a 2010 Rt. Both great rides. No major problems.
I would agree, People tend to bitch more then praise on a forum.
If you are willing to say where you are, Somebody from Spyder riders of Ohio is probably close bye and willing to talk in person.

:welcome: to the site. Like others said, you see more problems posted than good. That is because those without issues are busy out and about on their :spyder2:'s. The RSS is not one of the :spyder2: models that receives a lot of complaints about problems. You should be good to go.

I can speak from some experience with the RS and RT models. See my signature.
