Mileage on back Tire

Questions

New member
Hey all you spider pro's How many miles can I expect on the back tire at normal ware with no burn out's?? I am planning on to make a trip some 3200 miles and I have 9500 on my spider now so will I make it home with no issues. Also I'm traveling by my self and planning on staying off the freeways and traveling on the back roads of American and staying in motels so is there anything that I should be real concern about like needing a firearm??

check your wear bars.
if the center tread is even with the wear bar it is time to look at get it replaced.

Well..!!

This is a well debated or more discussed subject. On my RS I now have 18,000 mile and nearing the limit but not there yet. I ryde mostly double up and the back winding mountain roads. I have seen some who claim only 9,000 more or less. Where you measure your wear limit is tricky. There are a lot of water displacement blocks that confuse the measure.. If you check yours at the point where you see a small triangle on the side tread you can see the tread limit..heres a shot 20140408_173906.jpg hope it helps..

I would say you will be fine till after the trip. What air pressure you run will have some impact on how long the tires lasts.

In Missouri if ANY part of the tread is less than 2/32" deep then the tire must be replaced to pass a safety inspection.

In reality, if you are only going to ryde on dry pavement, then you're probably good to go until there's no tread left. Not my recommendation, but it's your life.

I got 20K on the rear (28K on the fronts) running 30 lbs. Be sure you are using the actual wear bar for reference and not the mold marks. Best way is to measure ... .032" in the center tread (about the top of Abe's head on a penny ...

Got 7 K out of my back - a little to aggressively on the starts. :ohyea:

Just replaced with a Kumho - MUCH better on wet pavement. Half price of the OEM and my local Can Am shop wanted to put one on someone's Spyder, because they've been getting questions about going to a different tire from other customers, and I am their guinea pig. :yikes:

If you are asking the question "Is it OK to take this long trip with?" I think that it means that you need to replace it, just for peace of mind. It will cost you a couple of bucks, but then again what would it cost ot have your Spyder towed with a flat on it OR worst case scenario - what would a hospital stay cost?

Enjoy your ryde - and be safe.

If there's ANY doubt at all...
...Change the rear tire before the trip!
After all; what is "Peace of Mind", worth to you? :dontknow:

Ditto, I got 12,000 miles on the back tire on my 2012 RT.

Ummm, it seems like most of us missed this one.

My opinion - if you do not feel safe, then don't go there. If having a firearm on you is a requirement to going into a place OR riding in an area, go somewhere else. Why take the chance? But then again, that is just me.

One or two times

If, you feel the tire will make the trip. Here's something to consIder. When you have the wheel off to replace the tire. Go ahead and replace the wheel seals and bearings. Especially if you're having the dealer do it. Because you'll be so close on mileage for needing to do so at 14K. Just a thought and it might save you the cost of tearing things down twice. fwiw

I didn't think mine was a problem at 9500 and then we hit a rain storm and it hydroplaned really BAD! Scared the :cus:it out of me. I had never had that before.

Yep yep, I think a lot of people are seeing the wear to those "mold marks" and thinking those are the tread wear indicators...

On another note, I thought those "mold marks" were "water shed bars".... Either way...:D

My rear tire is just about level with those "marks"/"bars" and I am right at 8k miles.
