• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2014 Spyder Changes

Was just informed by BRP of some additional changes to the 2014 models, thought it would be of interest to many of you.

1) The 2014 RT-S and RT Limited models will no longer have the push-button electronic front trunk release. They are going to have the same “push the key and turn” trunk release as all of the other Spyders. This can be done if the engine is running or not.

2) The 2014 RS models will now have the gas-charged FOX Podium shocks up front (like the RS-S and 2014 STs) instead of the SACHS shocks.

3) 2014 RS & ST models will be coming with a SOFTER rear coil spring than what the 2013s came with. If you want a stiffer spring on a 2014 you can install the standard spring from the 2013s. If you want a softer spring on a 2013, you can install the standard spring from a 2014. Both are progressive wound springs, but the 2014 version has both softer start and finish rates compared to the 2013 version.

Thank you for the information. Time will tell how well these go over with the general public.

I for one, would miss the electronic trunk release. Not sure what a different spring will do. Hope it does not add to the recent woes that some have mentioned about getting only 2500 miles on rear tires. Tire mileage is a biggy for me. At $400 for a rear tire change over (parts & labor), I am not to keen on changing rear tires every other month. Not going to happen here.

trunk release

according to Renee at BRP- this is not true...

In a letter dated October 25, 2013 from Martin Ethier, Can-Am Spyder Product Manager, it says, and I quote, “The 2014 Can-Am Spyder RT-S and RT Limited models no longer have the push-button electronic front cargo release. As for all other Spyder roadsters, to open the front cargo simply push and turn the key, whether the engine is at stop or running.” This statement is under a heading titled "Can-Am Spyder RT-S and RT Limited - front cargo release".

In reading this statement, it says the 2014 RT-S and RT Limited models no longer feature the push-button front cargo release. I would tend to believe the Spyder Product Manager on this one. I suppose there might have been a mistake in the French to English translation? I'm just sharing with you first hand information so go ahead and argue about it if you want to, don't shoot the messenger.

No need to argue I am telling you what Renee at Brp said pal, tell you shortly when I pick mine up, while your at it look at Brp site on the Rts spec

Peace out

Has any one heard any thing about blue tooth operation on the new models? I hope by now that BRP would move into the modern communication world. Wireless Bob

We Shall See

Have you ever heard the part about "specifications subject to change"? The 2014 Owner's Manual you are looking at was published before the October 25 letter from the Spyder Product Manager. I just checked the consumer website and that spec sheet (Package Options under RT-S) also still lists the push-button release, so that website has not been updated. But I also just looked at the revised spec sheet for the dealers, and in the exact same place it no longer lists the push button release, so the dealer version of the spec sheet has been updated. If you want to believe outdated information, go ahead. The Can-Am Spyder Product Manager told his dealers on October 25 that the RT-S and RT Limited would no longer have the push-button release and that their spec sheets would be revised, which they have been. That was three days ago. The owner's manual you guys are looking at will not reflect this, and the consumer web site has not been updated. The dealer spec sheet has been updated, and the dealers have been notified of this "2014 Can-Am Spyder lineup Modification". I do know what I am talking about. nojoke

I think we can agree, there has been some confusion about the trunk release. Why don't we just wait and see?

If you don't know what your talking about then hold your peace.... Several of us stated it is and it's in the 2014 owners manual....

Exactly. I suggest we wait and see, because I found another inconsistency of information. While that letter from BRP (mentioned here earlier) mentions gas-charged FOX Podium shocks, this BRP webpage says different:

http://can-am.brp.com/spyder/spyder/spyder-rt.html

NEW SACHS† shocks with bigger piston diameter (30 mm) and better damping capacity Travel: 6.85 in

Unless I'm missing something here. In any case, I suggest - Let's wait and see.
