Looking to buy a new STS for the wife and need help please

Hi Chris,

Yes, you will need a MC license to drive a Spyder in Arizona, but you will also be able to drive in the HOV lane too! I live in Cave Creek and just purchased a Spyder RT-S a month ago. I visited several of the RideNow dealers in the Phoenix area and none of them "volunteered" any good deals above the BRP Rebate: that is until I visited the RideNow Surprise location. I got a screaming deal on a brand new 2013 RT-S for $19,999.

I just looked on their website and they have a new 2012 RT Audio and Convenience model on clearance for only $17,999 (http://www.ridenowsurprise.com/defa...00x200/2012_Can-Am_Spyder_RoadsterRTAudio.jpg). Is there a reason why your wife wants an STS rather than an RT for example. I thought I wanted an ST too until I saw the deal on the RT-S. I jumped at it and I am so glad that I did (I saved myself a lot of $$$ on making "mods" to an ST). Incidentally, I did most of my dealings with Gentry the Internet Sales Manager there. I will tell you this: do your research, before reaching out to a Dealer. Know what you can spend, and know what the going prices are. There are great deals to be had right now on 2012's and 2013's. Don't rely on the Dealers for info. You have it all right here without leaving home or picking up the phone. In one month with SpyderLovers.com, I know more than any local Dealer knows about the Spyders. Seriously.

Also, even though I had an AZ Motorcycle endorsement, no dealer would let me do a test drive, not even in the parking lot. I found that so ridiculous. I mean, how do I know I want to buy one if I can't get a feel of it? But my gut said that I just had to have it. But, I did negotiate a day "trial" period in the contract to return the Spyder if I really didn't like it. The Sales Mgr was confident that I wouldn't return it, and I guess he was right.

If you do some research on this site, you will see that many are complaining about all the heat problems on the 2013's. I myself do not have any at this time. When I purchased mine back in September, there was no hint yet of the 2014 features. But even knowing what I know now about them, I still would have gone with the 2013 (or a new 2012) due to the price point.

I can pretty much guide you in whatever you need to know, whether it be for warranty decisions, maintenance plan, best place for financing, etc. I went through it all and researched like crazy. I'll drop you an email.

Whatever you decide, best of luck! They are alot of FUN! I love mine.

The wife sat on all of them and found that the STS fit her the best and it had the floor boards and was smaller that the RT versions, and it was Yellow like my bike. She/we need to ride one just a little before we buy one and I think that will be a BIG problem...

Between the Can Am site and the Healthcare.gov site I am starting to think we need more site developers. And I understand why there may be a shortage...I absolutely hate website work. I had rather be kicked in the chestnuts by a man with an iron shoe as I had to develop a website and do the content also.

There's a place somewhere in Tempe that rents Spyders I think. You could always go that route first to get a feel of it. but without a license it's almost a catch 22. good luck.

So.....have you mentioned which items must be a part of the delivered package? I don't remember, or missed it, if you posted the information.

I have moved away from LTD--$3K to much for special paint, chrome, and electronics. Now liking the RT-S version in either Yellow (maybe top preference) or Cognac. Have already had black--but the white is also pretty stunning. I do want a drivers backrest--so maybe the special seat/backrest combo, or keep my Corbin setup if it fits. I also want trunk lights in the rear and maybe some added A-frame lights. Can't think of anything else--but so want to play with the "build a bike" page. I do have to much time on my hands, I guess. :roflblack:

I think it was called Top Spoke Rentals in Tempe, AZ. I think somebody told me they had a Spyder for rent.

So what all do you think about the price?, place?, etc......

Not sure what the rate % is they are talking about. Dealer provided financing is SOMETIMES higher than the local rate. You should check alternate financing just to make sure you get the best rate that will suit you. Do your homework about the 2013's just so you will be happy with your purchase.

There you go! $17,499 is about right (if it's a 2013). Make sure they don't charge you a delivery/setup fee either. And from what I am hearing (from BRP themselves), they are throwing in an extended 2 year B.E.S.T. warranty on top of the standard 2 year warranty, so you should get 4 years total for free. Then purchase another year on your own for no more than around $500. You can get the VIN number and call BRP yourself to find out what extended warranty is included. Never trust the dealer. They will tell you it only comes with two, then try and sell you the 3 year extended. They will also try and sell you the RPM One warranty. Don't do it. Go with BRP's B.E.S.T. I went through a local credit union called Canyon State Credit Union (I wasn't a member at the time). They had the BEST rates from anyone local. Did a 5 or 6 year for 3.5%. Might even be cheaper now. This will vary person to person though based on credit obviously. If you are only going to do 2 year financing, BRP might be able to get you a loan for 2.99%. Remember, if you are not comfortable with any part of the deal, just walk out of there. You won't get far as they will back down real quick for the sale. It's a buyer's market and honestly, any of the Dealers will price match. Oh, definitely buy the Service Maintenance plan so you can get 6 of the recommended services done and pre-pay to save $$$...Don't pay more than $1369 (this will be from RPM One)....Have FUN

Call Apache Motors in Mesa, Az 480-325-1818; they are not a Ride Now dealer

Service dept is great at Apache Motors Mesa, Az. Dealer is not Ride Now.
You may want to look at the 2014 ST major improvements with side panel scoops for directing more air under panels to cool exhaust pipes, brake master cylinder, etc.
There are major heat problems with 2013 ST's in extreme hot weather in Arizona, & Texas. See if dealer will install 2014 side panes as part of the discount deal on 2013 ST.
Renting one for a couple of days, or a long demo ryde is probably worth the on hands experience.
The 2014 Spyder RT has the 1330cc in-line triple engine with the exhaust pipes underneath the Spyder, which gets rid of all the heat problems!!!
The ST may get the triple engine in a year or 2 (to get rid of exhaust heat problems).
Enjoy your Spyder journey. They are a blast to ride, & you will justify ways to ride the Spyder, & leave the car at home!!!
Take your time & research info on here. Jim

So I think he is to high, what would a good counter offer should?
and/or should we wate for the 2014's to come out and give up the $3,000 and the 24 months Warenty. ????????

Chris,
I live right down the street from the Ride Now in Chandler and I haven't met one sales guy in there that new anything about the Spyder other than what you can read from the internet or brochure.

I have done quite a bit of business with Apache Motorsports in Mesa. They have serviced the Spyder a few times, recall items. The main guy that sales them there is a little more knowledgeable but I wouldn't by much.

My wife an I purchased our Spyder from Desert Dog Motorsports in Fountain Hills from a referral from a friend that had a Spyder. There are a small shop and only have one or two in there showroom. We ordered from them. Not sure it would work in your situation. I haven't looked at the ST's much so couldn't help you with the #'s there.

Good Luck with your search. If you have any questions or directions if you come up this way give me a shout and I'll let as much as I can.

Chris,

That price seems very high due to what's going on in the market at this time for 2013 Spyders. BRP is offering a $3000 rebate, and a 4 year extended warranty on 2013 RT models. (research heat issues) Now that is a great deal. Apparently this rebate does not apply to ST's, but you might want to confirm this.

http://can-am.brp.com/spyder/promotions/can-am-spyder-yellow-tag-event.html

Since your looking at the ST model, I'm not sure too much has changed for 2014. You might want to research that. If not much has changed (unlike the 2014 RT models which changed drastically), picking up a 2013 for a good discount might be the way to go. Unless of course you have money burning a hole in your pocket and want a 2014 at full MSRP. Looking at RideNow's website, Chandler does appear to have a very large selection at the moment. I saw some better priced "clearance" ST models if you don't have to have the Limited Edition.

Just like everything else, it really comes down to your budget and how much you want to spend. For example, there was no way I wanted to spend $28K+ on a 2014 RT-S, but spending $19,999 on a 2013 model worked for me, and still does, even after knowing what I know now about them.

I'm going to PM you with a name and number of a RideNow Internet Sales Manager you should call to get some feedback if nothing else on fair pricing.

Good Luck.

So far, no rentals in AZ this year (got the massage on my phone last night) I think the wife wants the STS, SE5 in Yellow, now should we:

Buy now or wait for the 2014's?

Go to the bike show in Longh Beach for a Demo ride from BRP if all that works out?

Is there a size diferances in the three models?

How can I call BRP direct?

What do you think?
Thanks
Chris

So what happened to the deal above? $3000 rebate off of the $20,499, plus BRP's 4 yr warranty. Sounds like that's what I'd be asking for. ($17499)
