Harley Davidson Spyder look a like "NOT"

I heard that Harley is coming out with something like the CAN AM SPYDER. Here in Jacksonville there is lots of talk about this coming out soon. I think after two years of the Spyder put a small dent in their market, so now here they come to compete with the Spyder! I know HD been on the drawing board with this idea for sometime now. I don't think it'll be much of a competition. I like my Spyder and don't foresee me changing to any other machine.

This will probably be a real compeditor for the spyder if it is actually released. I love my spyder and most likely wouldn't change to this but i do see many people going after it simply because it is a Harley. Then others will go for it because of the lean factor and the fact it probably will not have all the computers of the spyder but since its a Harley the price tag will probably be close to double the spyder.

Even if they do release this I wouldn't expect them to make a public announcement until July of next year at their dealer show. They've had the patents on this model since 2006. I wouldn't think they view Can-Am as taking their market shares and I wouldn't think their releasing this model would affect Can-Am's. Given the cost of their existing models and the cost of their new Tri-glide, if this makes it to production it would be pretty expensive to buy.

That's pretty awesome, but it'll be very pricey for sure. I wouldn't trade the Spyder for it, but would consider it in addition to the Spyder. It would be cool to have the lean factor.... talk about having to learn how to ride all over again.

Ugg, that baby is hirtin looks wise.
Maybe the pictures are before the tupper weir goes on.
I heard $35,000 some where.

I would be very interested. And, I bet the production model would be gorgeous.

My time with my Harleys was excellent. Never a problem, great dealer support, very comfortable to ride and accessories galore.

Bring on the competition.

If i has harley name behind it you can bet the price will be through the roof :yikes: thay should stick to what thay are famous for making out dated motorcycles that are ugly noisie and over priced no way i'd buy it :barf:

it's to innovative for harley they will never build it and if they do imagine the recalls on that one ....

And, the price alone; would kill it for me. Ha! I still cannot believe I spent nearly $19,000 on my Spyder. But, sooooooo glad, I did!

I totally agree :agree: Too many moving parts it just doesn't make sense in building something like this unless they just want to prove they can.

Well, it says it's going to have the Porsche designed VRod engine, so you can figure on rotten gas mileage, but wild performance.
The last H-D I had leaked oil almost as fast as I could pour it in the tank, had it for 6 months, got tired of the cake pan under th engine, sold it. I know they've improved them, the one I had was a '56, but there's just too much other stuff out there.

The V-Rod engine is an excellent design that is well respected. The mpg on a V-rod is well over 40.

My Ultra Classic got over 50 mpg... in town. The ABS system was state of the art. It never leaked anything, was a blast to ride and never caused me one problem... and, got as much attention as the Spyder.

And, the brakes didn't squeal. And, I didn't have to shut off the engine to open the trunk. Or, acknowledge a legal waver before I could start the motor. Or, let it warm up before before a ride. And, I seem to have read several problems with the SE??

Don't get me wrong, I love my Spyder. But, nothing is perfect. Any competition that will improve the 3 wheel design is appreciated. And, I bet HD could design a heck of a 3 wheeler. As could many other companies. I hope they do.

I think the point here is that for under 20k, the Spyder is a heck of a bike that HD won't be able to touch.

However, if the Spyder is breaking down all the time, this is not good!

We have to remember that the 2008s are the first of this line of bike. It's natural to have glitches in a new bike with a totally new design. This is the risk we all take for buying a new bike before its been on the market for a few years...used to be this way with cars too but computer development has cut back on problems...I guess motorcycle manufacturers are not quite there yet...at least not BRP.

Regardless, once the bumps are taken care of, we should all be owners of a great motorcycle that is lots of fun to ride.

I would have to agree with Roaddog, Harley's are actually very reliable bikes. Like most things including the Spyder it all depends on how well it's cared for as to how long it lasts.

Yes the Spyder is incredibly cost effective at the price we can purchase them and yes the price of a HD trike like ours would probably be more expensive, but the brand loyalty will appeal to certain people. Myself I love most every bike, this year alone my garage has been home to a Can-Am, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Harley. The one that spent the most time in the shop was the Kawasaki. None of the others have ever had to spend a night away from home. :2thumbs:

Will probably buy if it is in the 25 to 28K range, and if it leans and quicker off the block than Spyder. looks good tho.

Well said! Under $20,000.... nothing can touch the Spyder. Nothing even comes close! With that said; I know, I will be adding the BEST warranty coverage before my initial warranty expires. :)
