• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Has anyone purchased the BUDS software?

I noticed on another thread that ivanlee said he can hook-up to the BUDS system via the internet so I did a search and found you can purchase the software and it is not too unreasonable compared to the other upgrades I have done to my Spyder.I guess my real question is if you had the Buds software could you change the engine parameters to increase performance? This would certainly open up a new world of tinkering with the Spyder which I love to do although I admit I know just enough to get me trouble.:D

If you want to purchase bootleg software, this is probably not the place to discuss it. I doubt this has the periodic updates that BRP provides, either. JMHO

I am not trying to open up a can of worms here but if these products are bootleg how can a company sell them openly on the internet?Just search Buds software and you will see what I mean.

It seems easy enough to get and install the BUDS software but without the MPI CAN to USB adapter you have nothing...

Many of the bikers I've associated with for the last 40 years were inveterate tinkerers, hot rodders, and speed freaks. I learned many things from them, including the truism it's always good to learn from one's mistakes, but far less expensive and painful to learn from somebody else's! So..............................let 'er rip with the BUDS! Modern computerized engine management is a great way to gain extra performance, and mileage....................it's also a fantastic way to grenade your motor. I'm here to learn. Remember..................if it explodes and spreads flaming debris all over.................................get pics, or video and post it! TY!

Maybe Lamont will tell us how he got his copy.

I got a legal copy from BRP as part of the field testing I do for them. Anything else is bootleg and would be considered stealing of BRP's property but some folks have no problem with that I guess. :doorag:

Correct me if I'm wrong but i thought there was nothing you could do in BUDS to significantly boost performance. Isn't that why all the aftermarket performance tuning works by fooling the O2 sensor?

FYI, here's their take on that very question from their FAQs:

Frequently Asked Questions

I have read on various sites and through discussions with other techs that it is illegal to use and own BRP BUDS diagnostic systems unless you are an officially licensed BRP technician.

This is simply not true. The MPI (Multi Protocol Interface) was leased to the dealers by BRP and not sold to them. People acquiring these units through their own means (stolen goods or sold by a dealer that was not supposed to sell the unit) is definitely not legal as these units belong to BRP. However the units that we provide are commercially available. They are professionally spec'd, designed and manufactured. These units are not the property of BRP and are supplied, sold and supported by PowerSports Diagnostics to you the recreational vehicle technician. Feel free to contact us if you have further questions regarding this matter.

I own a Gem Car (which is nothing but a high end golf cart). Years back I found out that they used the same GE controllers as certain forklifts. I was able to get software from a forklift company and through trial and error, figure out how to eliminate 25mph governed speeds, pump more power to the motor, change over-rides, etc. (Actually ran the cart on the street (legal) at speeds close to 60mph). Point is, this wasn't for everyone as it took major mods to keep batteries, cables, controllers from melting as well as burning out motors. I'm not sure I want to risk my Spyder in the same way although it would be nice to change some curves when swapping exhaust systems, etc. (Will BUDS even allow that?)

FYI, I ran the demo software and it doesn't look like it will allow you to do much. Site doesn't mention price and will probably be high given limited market for this and needed hardware.

That is true. Even the dealer's hands are tied. The mixture cannot be changed without and auxiliary device from the aftermarket, and the ignition timing can't be changed at all.

It appeared to me the software was 100 dollars for one year and you could also purchase the hardware:dontknow::dontknow:I guess the can of worms is opened.

Sorry:opps:
