There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Horsepower

Any news on 2013 engines/horsepower? I like the st, but in order for me to do something drastic it has to have extra ponnies. Can I assume it is the same engine?

The ST is the same horsepower as the RT and they have dropped the horsepower on the RS to match. So all the engines are the same now.

:agree: 100 ponies!

So, I guess no new spyder for me . I installed an aerocharger because I NEED more power. At least I will scavange some parts from the st. I like the front fenders.

How hard was the aerocharger install and tuning? Have you had any issues so far?

The installation took me about half a day, because the tupperware and filter removal.Tunning is something else, I believe they come pre-tuned with a basic program. But I bougth mine used and the guy was running it at 15 pound of boost. It was AWESOME, for a day or two. I lowered the boost to 8 psi and haven't tune it yet , I am waiting to take my turbo vw bug to the dyno so I can do both. As you can imagine I'm running rich. A mechanic friend told me that is the same as setting a power commander.

aerocharger

Wilfred, what is this aerocharger?? almost sounds like a Turbo Charger you install on the exhaust? Can anyone answer that question?

I don't understand the horsepower thing. If the RS and RT (2012 and prior) engines are the same, how can the horsepower be different?

Same basic parts, different tuning on the 2012 and earlier models. There may also be a cam difference?

This, I believe, is where BRP missed the mark.

The message that has been consistently communicated to "the motherland" is that we all want the option for a bigger engine, more displacement, more horsepower.

You see the request on the forums.

You've heard the requests at the Owner's Events.

You've provide that feedback on customer surveys.

And yet, for 2013 we get a "Goldilocks" roadster that is somewhere between the RS and the RT.

Don't get me wrong - I really do like my RT. But it just seams like BRP isn't listening to their customers...

I am sure that they are listening, as the ST is the result of many suggestions about the RS. As to a bigger motor for the Spyders it would take a significant redesign and BRP while a pretty innovative company does take its time to develop new products. The RS took ten years to go from concept to production, the RT took almost as long and they are still grinding away on the Hybred. With gas prices and environmental concerns I'd bet we will not see a bigger motor for a while and in fact it's more likely that Hybred motors will appear first in the Spyder Lineup. Keep in mind an electric motor produces more power per size than a gas motor. It would not surprise me to see a Hybred RT in the future with better range and performance than the current models. It's the kind of innovative forward thinking design that BRP is known for.

I for one have no issues with the less than 1000cc displacement. Keeps insurance down, once you go over this displacement, so does the insurance. If your thinking more horsepower will make you go faster, try a different approach and hound them for better gearing on the topend. 100mph at 5700rpm's should not be that hard to achieve. You will just be in a lower gear for a longer duration. HD 6speed, never use it unless around 70/80mph and still wants to run less than 60% of revlimiter.

Peak horsepower is only one indicator of an engine's power and not even a good one at that. Engines do not produce the same amount of power throughout their entire power band from low to high RPM. Peak horsepower may not be produced until the RPMs are up high, in this case 7500 RPM for the 100HP rating. BRP has tuned the engine to produce more torque (rotational force) where it's needed at the low end, at a slight loss of peak HP. If you look at the specs, torque at 5000 RPMs has increased to 80 ft-lbs. This puts more of the engine's power where you need it most.

Don't be upset at the peak HP rating being lowered to 100 HP. It's the same engine with the same amount of power, it's just better tuned to produce a more effective power band for most typical riders' needs.

The fact that the torque peak is 2500 rpm lower than the horsepower peak also means that this engine has a broader power curve. :2thumbs:

I am not upset about, but just did not understand it. While I can do basic repairs to my bike/cage, but not major ones. For me, and my riding style the Spyder has enough power. A bigger engine, or more horsepower would not matter for me. My fast riding days are long gone, and I don't mind if it takes me a couple extra seconds to get to 65 when on the freeway.

MY THREE OR FOUR CENTS

I'm no slouch when it comes to speed, in fact I bet I'm in the upper range as far as Spyder Op's go....But really..Any Spyder can get very ILLEGAL in about 10 seconds....12 if towing a trailer....These things are not being marketed as Drag Racers......If you really want to go fast just buy a " Busa "....Don't ruin the Spyder for the Thousands of Spyder - lovers who are mostly happy with this aspect of the Spyder.....BECAUSE BRP is not going to produce 6 or 7 Different varieties of engine.....If they make a 150 HP engine we are all gonna get it, like it or not.......and if they boost the HP by 10....BRP will still hear the complaints by the same crowd..awh gee Only ten HP........Think about it.....OK off the soap-box.........VOTE BELOW....DO YOU AGREE ....IF NOT LEAVE BLANK......Mike...
