I am the happy owner of a 2011 RS. Done a ton of fun mods on it and it runs like a charm, as it is approaching 3K miles.
Most of my fellow Spyder riders have only good things to say about their trikes but a smaller, but important number have had many issues (I've read) ranging from the whimsical to the catastrophic.
In my experience all things will break and have problems, it's the way the Universe works; it's the frequency and seriousness of the failure that makes the difference weather a product is of better quality.
I think of my Spyder as the Audi of the motorcycle world in terms of technology, looks, innovation and COST. I do not know if there is a quality rating to measure Spyders by, and if there was, in a scale from 1 to 10 (ten being best), what an appropriate number it should receive.
Sometimes I am perplexed at the issues posted by some unlucky owners. Got a call this afternoon from a brand new lady-owner, who got her 2012 Limited Edition yesterday and it over heated on her way back home from the dealership. Her Spyder had to be trucked back to the dealer last night
I would HATE for a brand new Audi to do that to me
What should we expect BRP to do when it comes to guaranteeing the quality of their unique and costly Spyder line?
