There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The Harley "Culture"
Askspyderman's observation at the top of his post is right on with some of the 1%-ers (maybe 2-4%-ers as well?). Each "founding" brand seems to have its culture. BMW is another one that I posted on a few days ago in another thread. So now Harley. As a tribute to that culture, the following excellent narrative is presented:

o k , now should all us Harley guys start ragging on jap bikes and their riders?i see lots of them splitting lanes in shorts and flip-flops. by the way, most harleys wave to me, and i to them. sometimes you just can't wave because you are busy, DRIVING YOUR BIKE.:banghead: P.S. there are different classes in the harley world too. if you ride a Sportster you are looked down upon by big twin riders. i've been on both sides of that fence.

My husband rides a VRod and last week we went to Kansas City, MO for a VRod event at the Harley plant there. We were talking to a Harley engineer from Milwaukee who we had met at another event and he was telling me that he had a Spyder RT and trailer at his disposal for R&D. He didn't say if he liked it or not. I got to test drive a TriGlide there and I can guarantee you I won't be buying one of those any time soon.

You may not like the ride of a Harley, or like the looks, but for the most part, their quality has improved dramatically.
Some of my friends ride them, and these guys RIDE. Like 15K or 20K miles per year on their bikes.
AND Harley has, for the most part, EXCELLENT customer service, something BRP needs to pick up on.
In May three of us earned our IBA membership. The other two riders were on Harleys.
And.......I got a check engine light ont eh Cherhola parkway. I called the local Gatlinburg dealer to see if they could throw my Spyder on BUDS to see if I had a problem. They told me if I left it there, they could get to it in a day or two. Just to check out the computer codes ??
One of my friends related to me how he got in trouble in Myrtle beach and the Harley dealer opened up early just to service his bike.
A Harley may not be for everyone, but trashing them makes us seem like simple fanboys.

Anyone so hung up on themselves and what he/she rides, that they find a problem with others because of what they ride represents a pretty stilted, small personality wouldn't we say? As a touring person, if I had Jay Leno's garage, I'd have a Harley, a Beemer, a Triumph, a Wing and of course, a Spyder RT ... a Boulevard, a Royal Star and a Nomad. Most of us don't have Jay Leno's garage, so we settle with what best suits our spirit at a given time.

What is with the Harley bashing? Have any of you ever owned a Harley? Rode a Harley?
Every manufacturer makes different models for different uses. Some ride better than others.
My Sportster rode like a lumber wagon. My buddy's Streetglide feels like your riding on a cloud. Just like the RT rides like a dream, the RS not so much unless you put a couple thousand dollars worth of mods on it.
I never had one problem with the Harley and it never leaked a drop of oil. Unlike my Spyder that always wants to blow oil all over the right side of the thing. And yes I know, shove a piece of foam in the breather tube and that will stop it. That's a nice fix, never had to do that to the Harley.
And as far as service and the dealer network, BRP could learn a few things from HD.
And for the record I sold the Harley and I ride the crap out of my Spyder because it is so much fun.

Many moons ago, the ex and I had 2 HDs - a Sportster then an ElectraGlide. The group we rode with had Japanese bikes. Guess who was always bringing up the rear, and broke down the most? Yep, that would be us. Nobody would ride behind us for fear of getting hit by a flying part. Dunno if the problem was the HDs or the ex, though...

i have had more poser guys riding harveys than any other brand (with bmw guys a second but ride more anyone) but i still give people I don't get along with if they ride. The real harvey rides, laugh about all the jokes because they are not keyboard riders and DO ride. i think the image of what you ride gets to harvey riders because of what the image used to be, if you could pull a 70's harvey into a bar you were a damn good rider and where "badass" not so much anymore. They are way more reliable and its getting to the point were you can't buy a bad bike, just what you perks are more important to you.
I will ride with anyone but what I look for in a bike is not what the HD brand offers, now if they fixed my back I work rock one much like spyder anns hubbies.

I have owned Honda, Yamaha, Harleys and my RT and my 2 favorites are the HD and Spyder. It doesn't matter what you ride - JUST RIDE! There are attitudes in the GoldWing Groups we have ridden with as bad as the Harley Groups snubbing other brands. I owned 3 Softails and traveled thousands of miles with no mechanical problems whatsoever. We rode for years with a GoldWing Group in Texas and on one trip to Canada from Texas I took pictures of the mechanical problems our friend on a GoldWing was having just for fun after all the ribbing I had received. I also got much better mileage than they did so when we were in the middle of nowhere they were looking at me like vultures.
Fencepost (my hubby) rode a GoldWing at the time as well. I am 5' tall and thank you Harley for making a bike for short folks when no others did!!!! I sold my Softail Deluxe and bought a 2008 RS used and then traded for the 2010 RT. I hear some of the comments wherever we go but most riders have just been curious as to how the Spyder handles. Challenge them to a little drag race

We all point to Harley's history and the "Bowling Ball" era... What will they say about the first couple of years' production of Spyders in a few decades? :shocked:
