• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Well it happened

:(:(:( After 3 days of rain i started up the bike cause i wanted to ride to my brothers garage to add some new items that i just got in got about 1/4 mile from home and got the dreaded limp mode all warnings were lite up so i turned around got home shut it down open fuse panel checked all fuses and relays waited a little longer then tried to start it and nothing no power at all!!
called the shop explained what happened they are sending a tow truck.
i was going to tear it apart and check the battery connection but i did not want to have it all apart when the truck got here besides anybody that has the brp give racks knows its a pain because you have to remove the turn signal on that side and its a pain. Hmmm maybe do a relocation project any ideas anyone. Hey ideas on the cause of the problem? :(:(:(

:( Bummer! I'm sure that you've already checked the most common problems, but if it's been raining for three days and the bykes been exposed to moisture, then it may be corosion on the terminals.
Let's hope that it's something minor.

I believe that i found the reason for not starting i need to tighten battery terminals but i still have the limp mode. Now i just heard from my dealer their tow truck is down but they are working on away to pick up my bike i have a very good dealer so i'am not worried one bit. I looked at that turn signal post that i mentioned was a pain to remove and i have an idea already to try actually 2 ideas.

If that's the case chances are it just wasn't charging. Put it on the charger over night and I'll bet all will be fine.

Roger, glad you looked into a bit and at least got this far! Yep, charge it up and hope all will be better. However, if the dealer connects your Spyder to BUDS that may found out a little more.

Keep up posted, Roger and good luck!
Cheers,
Dean

Thanks lamont since the tow truck wont be coming i will try it. nothing to loose :dontknow:

Hey Rog, if your battery charger has a start mode see if it will start that way. Just my thought but if the battery wasn't taking a charge shouldn't the battery light on the console be on the last time you road it.??

I just noticed as i pulled my spyder closer to the house to put the charger on it the fault codes were gone but did eventually come back on so i think lamont maybe correct we will see? :dontknow:

:agree: If the terminals were loose, chances are that the battery wasn't charging. Good luck, and send me the name of your dealer.

Best thing I ever did, my battery would go dead every two or three days if not always left on a tenderizer. Now I have the Odysey battery and I never had another dead battery since changing it.

trickle battery charger

hey..,i use a battery tender plus, trickle battery charger, and haven't had any problems starting.....its the best, use one on my riding lawn mower too, and haven't had to replace my battery at all,,

Try turning it on and off three times quickly someone says that does an ecu reboot

Good idea but i will wait in the morning to try it i have it on a charger right now
it's only a 1.5amp but it will charge it up and then maintain it.

I have three of them in the garage. One for each bike and one for the John Deer ride mower. Never had a battery issue with Battery tender plus.

That sounds right but i have not rode in 4 days and i had to disconnect the battery to install the 02 modifier and i probably did not get a good connection.
i just looked at the charger and it says the battery is fully charged so i will go out and see what is going to happen i will let you guys know
in a little while.

I ride mine at least once a week. But if its gonna sit more than a month, then I put a tender on it. Never had a problem.:dontknow:

Ok long story short first. No i still have codes kicking out being the dealers tow truck is being fixed i called my insurance company and they are sending one early this afternoon but i discovered a few things 1 their was this metal relay on top of the battery and i thought that might be touching the ground on the battery problem fixed with zip ties, 2 apparently when i was putting the floor pan back on the bike i disconnected the fan plug so i fixed that. battery cables were tight so that is a non issue but i don't know why the battery drained ? Oh well at least i'am covered 100% for the towing

I think the metal relay you were refering to is the starter solenoid. It is basically a high current realy for the starter motor. Also have you tried just disconnecting the battery for a few and trying again, you would be surprised how often that works. Also check the connections under the seat where the relay is and the ground. I guess no Chatterbox.
