GPS sounds through headset?

MangoMike

While talking with Dave01 today, I'd mentioned that I wasn't able to hear the routing instructions through my headset, and he said that he didn't think the GPS "played" through the intercom/cb headset, but he wasn't sure. Does anyone know? If true this is a BRP oversight. The GPS plays fine through the external speakers, why not the internal?

With all the issues we have on our RT-S... I just thought this was because of it being on a poopy Spyder...

I will be a very unpleasant person if the GPS does not go through our headset!!!

It was one of only two reasons we spent the additional $800 fo rthe CB and $340 for the headsets. The other was to be able to talk to each other as we spot things along the roadways.

We hear nothing at all from the GPS when it is mounted. Nothing. Keep in mind... About 5 miles into picking up our Spyder last week, a loud squelch... POP... was heard in the headset... No more GPS. I have to charge it with the 12v plug in and it lasts about two hours... The mount is dead. No power...

I just assumed this was why it is not being "Heard" in our headsets... Amn I hope this turns out to be a programming thing :popcorn:

Not going to be happy .. I think

We have the Cardo Blue Tooth Headsets witch work out very well with GPS and communication with each other. but switched to NEW wired headsets to be able to use FULL function system ???? IE; CB, I-Pod etc. As you, I will not be a Happy Camper if I have Pi.... away more $$$ on some thing not made aware of thru any information in publications or sales. :chill:

You should be able to change songs from rider control, you can without a comm system. that sounds like a problem. The passenger control only changes volume to the passenger headset, though. It won't change speaker volume.

Passenger control

Passenger controls .. Unable to lower headset volumn or change songs on I-Pod ?? :dontknow:

Switch may not be plugged in...or there is a defect that needs to be resolved.
:agree:
My wife changes her volume and what song/channel she wants from the passenger control. FWRD or BKWRD  Of course the driver has the master control as to what is being used... Radio or iPod...

Went for a ryde today to test the new GPS. Got the Zumo 660 from Ryder dot com and made my own bracket. I purchased the BRP harness to hook up with everthing else and I to have no sound through the headset, what the!!!!!:yikes: Can anyone help?

Passenger Headset

I bought my RTS about three months ago, It is fantastic! B>)

At the time I ordered just about everything you could add including all of the communication stuff. It took a couple of months but it's all installed except one item, the passenger head set. When I ordered it there was a picture showing a button on the line so the passenger can talk to the driver. Can Am discontinued the part number without telling the dealer. The dealer has spent a ton of time trying to get the correct part. Following the direction of Can Am they ordered one incorrect part, took weeks. They then ordered another and it turned out to be incorrect. Now when we look at the website we can't find the picture or part number for the passenger head set. It looks like several of you may have that part.

Is it different from the passenger headset and how does the passenger talk with the driver? The dealer is now calling the factory rep to see if he can get the answer.

Thanks everyone!:helpsmilie:

Mr.B,

All the passenger has to do is talk, nothing to push. It's voice activated and works great (once you figure out the setting - set the VOX option very low, almost off and it works great). My post deals with hearing the voice directions and music/books from the GPS through the headset. Looks like it doesn't work.

I've written to BRP and told them I spent almost $2000 on the GPS and CB/intercom only to find out they don't work together, and asked them Carlo when they were going to fix this. No answer so far...

Communication ?s

Keep us posted as to Carlos' response if you would. There seems to be a common issue with the unites. :chat:

The demo unit I test rode did not allow the GPS to be heard thru the helmet, only the onboard speakers. I opted to put my own Garmin on and use the Cardo system for this very reason. I was told that there wasnt any plan to have the GPS linked to the intercom.

I think someone dropped the ball on the GPS through the headsets deal. There is no reason for it not to work through the headset seeing they have 7 pins to use.

The funny thing is when I use my earbuds through the comlink I can hear my GPS just fine. I don't know if they can fix this but it has been brought up to BRP from me and Fred Rau when we were first testing them. :dontknow:

That makes me think they are on it... Hope I am correct...

However... I was told by my dealer, and understood from my research on the CB/Communication system that we "Had" to buy the CB system to connect the GPS to the Communication system already included on the RT-S.

I am perfectly aware that during my research I could have incorrectly understood what I assumed to be... Ok..

But when our dealer pulled out the BRP "Data Sheets" to show me that I had to also get an additional set of cords in order to complete the process ($189 more) I was assured that the GPS was going to reach us through the headsets.

We spoke about this in length, and the Dealer contacted BRP because I protested the need. I mean come on.. We spend $1200 on the GPS and now I have to spend $800 on the CB only to learn they will not work together without the extra $189 in more parts :yikes::gaah: This was very frustrating to both of us.

So if in the end... the GPS will not go through the headset.... I am selling it and will be a pretty upset fella for a while. I would have rather used one of the four GPS units we already have, and grabbed a $80 CB made for bikes. Then the $2109 to add the accessories I have... Like the Hand Brake and Exhaust!!

I spent the money and bought the CB and all of the cords. I'll probably never use the CB. The GPS does work thru the headphones ( bought the headphones from J and M). Just another one of those "things"!

Communication System

Just got off phone with Chris Paulson of Paulsons in Lacy, Wa.
There is a fix to ty in the GPS to system. BRP has sent out a bulletin that Chris is looking for that gives the how 2s'. :2thumbs:

In answer to I-Pod controls from passenger and rider music change ... I-Pod has to be 3rd. generation.
I purchased mine in Oct.2004. :gaah: I have 1,986 songs downloaded on I-pod.

interested to know the solution. still waiting for my turbo busa to sell before I buy the RT. the dealer has our RT manual in the crate in warehouse holding it for us until he sells the hayabusa for us.

we use the CB for group rides between lead and the sweep rider in case we get split up by traffic lights ect.

wa3wheels,

Did you ever find the BRP fix to the problem? Yours was the first mention of a possible fix and I think a lot of us would be very interested in finding out what the fix is.

Thanks

Mike

Mine too no gps sound thru the headsets only the speakers. I also have another problem when the gps switches to night mode It blocks all sound from the intercom, radio and CB only a buzz thru the headsets and speakers. The dealer will check it next week. Any ideas ?
