• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. I have had my RT for a month, 1115 miles. Every time I come to this forum, its horror stories!!! Clutches and rear shocks going bad after a few hundred miles???? 2weeks at the dealers???
I was going to go out for a ride, but maybe I should just put it out on the road with a for sale sign!!
DID I MAKE A MISTAKE????

I had the clutch problem but that was fixed. I just did a 1200 mile BBQ run this weekend and no problems. I now have 12,000 miles on this RT.

I would say if reading the forums freaks you out that much then don't read the forums, just ride the thing. :doorag:

No question that the forums tend to be where people with problems hang out. People that are having a wonderful time aren't likely to log on. Like Lamont says...ride it! I am currently having some significant issues with my RS but they are being dealt with. The most important component is your dealer. If they have a good rep. and properly informed techs you should be fine. IMHO alot of the problems discussed here include a dealership that either doesn't understand the problem or are not interesed enough to keep current.

It's always the horror stories which you will see first on the forum, it's not that bad as it seems. Make sure you get your updates done right way.

I had Foul Spark Plugs.
In the worse traffic part of the day, my spyder wouldn't down shift.
My trunk lock broke, couldn't open it anymore.

Give up my Spyder, no way :2thumbs:

:agree::agree:
If you have a good dealer, they'll take care of you IF there's an issue with your Spyder.
We have two (RS & RT, both SE5) and are ryding them nearly every day . . . . so ryde safe!

I'm as guilty as anyone about posting problems on the forums. But, this is where you get answers! The service reps and techs don't get much time to discuss things with us so this is the next best thing. Keep in mind that even with the problems I've had the odo is showing around 5300 miles. This really is a cool bike and sooner or later I'll have everthing (well almost) the way I want it. If we didn't like this thing it would have been gone some time ago. Just ride, no worries!

I pick up mine today and hope for the best

We had one issue, clutch, and other then that have over 1300 miles in 1 month and no other issues. We are in Hopewell Jct, NY not far from you. I don't know who you purchased your bike from but we bought our at Artic Adventures in Rosendale NY and they are great. They treat us great and have went the extra mile for us.
Good luck with the bike and as others say people mainly post their issues (bad) on here to help get answers. Knowledge is power and at times it easier to read all these and if you have a problem you can tell your dealer what the issue is and how to fix it to help save time and aggravation.

The people having problems tend to be the ones that scream the loudest. I think a lot of that is just driven by frustratioin. Not all RT owners are having issues. I just turned 1000 miles on my RT-S, and I'm happy to report I've had no serious issues at all. Other than a rattlle in the windshield, which I believe will be resolved in the near future, I have no complaints and smile every time I ride. If you are dealing with a reputable dealership, they are going to bend over backwards to try and make you happy, mine certainly has, it's in their best interest. Lamont is right, ride it and enjoy it, no sense in worrying about something that hasn't or might not ever happen.

6000 miles and no probelms with my Phantom. My buddy bought a $29,000 toyota tundra. One week in engine light comes on. To make a long horror story short they cracked his motor and replaced the camshaft. It can happen to anythign anywhere. This is a new machine it may have a few issues that will need to be worked out. It is not just a suped RS either from what I gather its quite different. Just drive it. If you have probelms you have a warranty and it will get fixed somewhow by someone for free.

Different perspective...

I understand how you might draw your conclusion from scanning this forum. But I see it differently...I've never owned a product of any kind where I have the kind of access to the ideas and shared experiences of so many folks with a common goal. This forum is, in a word, "priceless." I consider it it one of the most useful tools for maximizing my enjoyment of the Spyder. There are untold numbers of people who help each other, not the least of which is Lamonster, and I for one am grateful. Okay, enough of the paid advertisement.

Ride and enjoy! Cheers!

Mistake!! You're kidding, right??

Being one of the horror story purveyors, with my SM5 clutch problem. Let me set my record straight. Yes, I was a bit shocked and disappointed at the severity of my problem. Yes, I too chronicled the bad news on this forum, Yes.. it's still in the shop... HOWEVER, My dealer as well as BRP have been been EXCEPTIONAL in helping with this frustrating problem... Let me assure everyone reading this post. I am now more than ever, extremely excited, with throbbing anticipation of a long term relationship with my RT. I completely agree with Lamonster and bcspyder. Git on'er and git going and yep, bad news seems to hang out on forums I suppose. I'm on here dang near every single day it seems, and there is TexasTon of good stuff here for sure. It's that stuff that makes us crazy to go far and fast on these magnificent machines. Kinda like a good marriage, (I'm happy to have one), a bad day here 'n there but all in all ... I really really like it!! Now gimme' my Spyder back...We've got some serious riding to do!! How much did the Lamonster pay you? Actually, he and Fred Rau (through their blogs) were instrumental in my decision to buy an RT-S. Thanks guys. I was afraid that I'd have to give up riding because of a progressing back problem, but I'm happy to say that after 2,100 miles I suffer NO PAIN. And I'm leaving for a thousand-mile round tripper today.
Please pay in cash or certified check only. Just kidding.

Well we are about 1700mi in on our RT and haven't really had any issues. Central Texas Motorsports in Georgetown Texas seems to be pretty a well informed dealer and always listens to any concerns... Hopefully in the future I will be able to complain about something, but so for I just ryde and Grin alot.:2thumbs:

I would not "put it out on the road with a for sale sign", just give the Spyder to me :joke: Just kidding (unless you really want to give it to me). As with any product there is the good and the bad with it. I am grateful to those that post their issues and how they are fixed on this site, as I have learned about them, and what to watch for when I do get enough money to buy my Spyder.

My wife was scared also. All she could see was dang this and dang that. She would come to me with questions. I told her most problems are because of mods. But who am I? Wait, no mods and no problems. Seems to me the designers and testers of the :spyder2: seem to know more about this than me. Ryde on. This is the most fun we have had in years. If it breaks, we will get it fixed. If it doesnt break, we will continue to have great times.

Baby just had 3000 mile service done on her RT and I'm just about there for my 15000 on my RS. No major problems - just ryde - and ryde and ryde - Baby does complain about how much gas we use becuase we take both bikes all the time other thanthat just minor annoying stuff occassionally, BUT WE LOVE THEM:2thumbs::spyder::spyder::2thumbs:
