There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Spyder on-board tool kit

Hi guys. As far as I've read in the operators manual, the on-board tool kit is in the corner of the trunk, up front.

I know from experience that most stock toolkits are made of very weak white metal and not really extensive, but may get you out of simple jams on the roadside.

A couple questions for experienced spyder ryders:

What is the Spyder on-board toolkit really like?:
1) Is it a good tool kit; does it provide you with enough tools to get you out of a jam on the roadside?

2) What does it actually contain - any pictures of the tool kit bag, where it lives and what it contains? - please post if you have some.

3) Have you guys ever had to use the tool kit, often, and for what types of roadside fixes?

Thanks.
Cheers.

Best addition is a

Cell phone, mini air pump, (install a higher amp lighter plug for the pump... the factory/dealer plugs are only 3 amps) and a tire plugging kit.

The basic kit is just like the ones on motorcycles... not much to brag about. Not much room for a real tool kit unless you have saddle bags or tow a trailer. The basic kit can help if it is something simple.

I can't find the jack so I carry the plug kit from my favorite store Walley World. OH... I didn't get one the fancy tool kits like the others mine came in a black plastic bag./Ken

I've had to use my tool kit when changing the oil for the first time... I had to use the t-30 torx bit as mine seemed to have "walked away".

It's a decent basic kit, and certainly better then nothing if stuck out on the road somewhere. Of course the best tool you could carry with you is a cell phone. (One with a good signal).

Spyder-Man771: Thanks for your reply.

krb1945: Nice additions to the stock tool kit, nice! Where do you usually put that - the trunk or a saddle bag I guess - too bad it can not fit in the tool kit area.

Cheers.

In the

trunk. I lay the extra stuff on the bottom on a piece of carpet. In addition to the above I also carry a fire extinguisher on each spyder. It takes up space but I feel better carrying it. /Ken

I added a set of torx drivers for working on everything from removing the tupperware to tightening down the screen and the mirror arms. Luckily, I haven't to get into anything more serious.

I wonder if the RT and RS kits are actually the same; perhaps the RT has a few more knickknacks?

Cheers.

We have one of each & I should compare them. I don't recall thinking there was a difference when I glanced at them. I have a ton of tools in my garage, so don't use the kit when working on the Spyders & haven't had a need to use it while riding.

That would be great, thanks - it would be nice to have a few pictures of them kicking around the forum, if you could snap a few.

Cheers.

GREAT!! Wow, it seems to even come with the Front Suspension Adjusting Wrench, that's nice!

What is the item just above the tire pressure gauge, the one with the ring on it?

Also, does that tire pressure gauge work ok - it looks a little bulky - I've read about some ryders having a hard time getting readings based on where the tire valve stem is located.

Thanks so much for sharing the pictures, greatly appreciate it.

This was in my '09 SM5.... made in Taiwan...

Those are the Min/Max Speed Sensor gauges.. Haven't tried the pressure gauge yet... have a small one that works fine for me....
