• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder Dealer Updates-Closings - GPS List

I'm working on a project I hope everyone will like.

I've converted the most recent BRP Spyder Dealer list (dated June 18,2009) from a PDF into an Excel file. I've also updated incorrect addresses using US Postal Software and Databases that I have access to.

From there I will be creating a custom POI (Point of Interest) file that can load into Garmin units - so Garmin users can have all of the Spyder dealers right at their fingertips - completely programmed with phone numbers that can auto-dial with the push of a button, or just select the dealer and push GO to get directions.

Before I do the final database conversion and programming for the Garmin file, I want to have the data as accurate as possible.

If anyone knows of any dealers that have closed, moved, merged, etc. --- and you are POSITIVE about it - please post the information in this thread so I can update the list.

I hope to finalize the code this weekend and do testing next week. If all goes well it should be available (free) sometime next week.

I got this idea awhile ago and then was reminded when someone asked about putting the dealer list into their Garmin. Well, that is no easy task, but I got some good advice from a guy who did it for the HD dealers - so it's going pretty smooth.

Thanks for any updates you can post here!

Wow - very cool! Next we'll need an iphone application of this. Actually next I need Iphone.

I can give anyone the Excel file when I'm done with it--- and they can probably load that into the I-phone somehow. There are tons of apps for the I-Phones---- far more than the Garmin - so it should be easier to do on the I-phone---- but I don't have one so I won't be doing it.

I want one but I hate AT&T so won't be getting one until their contract runs up with them and I can keep Sprint. Our phone guy here at work who gives all the execs their blackberries said contract runs out this year and Apple probably won't be exclusive to AT&T so I'm just waiting.

Okay - I'll bite.
Why don't you like AT&T? I have them and their iPhone and love both the phone and the coverage. Pricing is about the same as Version and others.
Do you live in a poor coverage area maybe?
I have on good authority that Version will be acquiring iPhones soon, don't know about Sprint.

AT&T covering in Michigan pretty much sucks.

Thanks for the info Rando!

If you have the Iphone unlocked it can work on the sprint network

I'll cringe if AT&T loses the iPhone and Verizon takes over. We've had problems with Verizon the two or three times we've tried them. Nextel / Sprint has been good for us and I'd love an iPhone with direct connect capabilites. For the month or two that we've had AT&T and the iPhones, we've been happy.

Good to excellent coverage up in my neck of the woods. IMO, AT&T had great coverage everywhere on our trip to California.

Sorry for the hijack.... Thanks for working on the dealer list firefly. A copy of that could be very handy.

I believe for Verizon to take the I phone they will need to upgrade their network off of collision detection.

Can t come too soon for me .

I actually have this completed and converted to a gpx file. This will allow a user to dial the number from the Garmin. I've written to BRP to get an updated list but have heard nothing.

If you want to share your updated list, I will cull mine and save you the trouble.

I have to validate mine -- the separate pieces validate so the completed file should.

No sense in doubling the effort. I've been at this for a week.

Verizon notorious for horrible customer service..AT&T much better but in some areas the coverage is not as good...

I have the iphone and wouldn't go with anything else...if this meant switching to AT&T, I'd do it just for the phone..unless, of course, there was no AT&T where I live...

No, nothing to do with cell phones. I've hated them since they took over our local phone company. The people I know who work there get treated like cr@p, their customer service absolutely sucks here, they keep sneaking hidden fees on the bills for my land line and I have to constantly call them to scold them (not nicely) for that. If HDX didn't need a fax line, I'd eliminate those SOB's all together and just stick with our cell service.

I started on this a while ago, and got bogged down quickly. "You are a better man than I, Gunga Din."

Actually if you have it in pdf file, I have a pdf reader on my iphone so that is all I would need.
