This the resultIMG_20140705_193553.jpg
After wrapping the ST-S gas tank with the Cool-it insulation that Snoopy used it started to melt within 20min. What a mess!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes, we got most of it off but there were some places we could not reach. It will have to burn off. Hopefully nothing will burst into flames

I've had mine on for 1500 miles and no issues.
It handles up to 2000 degs, so not sure if maybe you had it closer to something than I do?
Everyone always wants to kick the dog.
What type bike is it on?
Do you live in the desert?
Do you let it idle for 1/2 an hour?
LOL

Interesting..!!
whatever it is it's a mess. Something is amiss if yours melted like that and Snoopy's is doing fine. Same stuff..?? Same heat range..?? Same installation..?? Could it have come loose falling onto the pipe..?? Regardless if rated to 2000* seems the manufacturer is stretching things...

If anyone ever wants to know what the cost of free advice is; just try using it... Mark Twain.
Seriously though... what a mess. Something has to be different with the two situations.
I am listening...

My bike is yellow, the fastest color. So basically I have much more airflow and haven't had any issue.

I have the Thermo Tec starter heat blanket between the gas tank and seat on the wife's RTS. It works good, cut the heat under the seat. I used the Thermo Tec cool shield tape on the fuel tank and it didn't stick.

it used to be. Before RED was invented. That was a long time ago, you might not remember when it was reported on Huntly Brinkley.

Hmmm...perhaps, I've never seen a red Spyder in person.

it is rated at 2000F but the adhesive backing is only rated 300 F. It was put on a 2013 ST-S and yes he has the exhaust wrapped.
"Adhesive Backed Heat Barrier is made up of woven silica with a flexible aluminized finish. The highly reflective surface of the material is capable of withstanding radiant temperatures up to 2000°F. The adhesive backed side handles direct and continuous temperatures up to 300ºF."

Mines a ST-S also.
I've ridden it for 4-5 months now with it. Up to 2hours and 95 deg weather and have had no issues.
I'll have to pop off a panel and see if there are any signs of it anywhere coming apart.

I notice in your profile you have a 2012 RS SE5 Spyder White.
I have a 2012 RT-S SM5.
Is there something about model year 2012 that suggests the fuel tank should be wrapped?
I see a lot of that mentioned for 2013, but not 2012's.
-
folks will often wrap the exhaust, and insulate the tank for personal comfort issues, that don't reach the level of functionality issues...
But there's always the potential of boiling fuel to arouse suspicions!
