I went out to start my 08 SE Spyder which has been on a charger:
1st turn key
2nd display cycles through
3rd hit button to stop scrolling message
4th hit start button
after pressing the start button i hear a click and the display shuts down...no start
turn key off and back on and nothing
wait a few moments turn the key on and the same things happen.
Anybody have a clue on what this could be? I still have warranty but will have to get her towed to the shop

Could be bad connection between charger and battery. Really bad news is battery could be shot completely and just won't take a charge. I'd check connections first.

Charge your battery and check the connections. The battery should be tested, it may be on its last legs.

Same thing happened to me earlier this year. Turns out the battery has seen better days. Also had mine on a tender and the light even showed that it was charged up but still a no go. New battery installed and it fired right up.

Change the battery. If it is the original it is past due. I would look to the relay in the fuse box next. Mine had a similar problem. and was fixed by a relay. I would change all of the relays too.

Starting problem
Yup! It sounds like the battery may have seen better days! I would also check all of the battery connections and your battery tender, to make sure it is working correctly. I had a battery tender overcharge a battery of mine and ruined the battery.

THE PROBLEM
I know you had your foot on the brake pedal when tried to start it .....right !!!!!!!......I would check the Battery connections to make sure they have not sulfated (white powder residue) and you have clean connections......But as was suggested earlier 4 years for a Spyder might be pushing it's Battery lifespan unless it's been treated perfectly for the past 4 yrs.........just saying.........Mike.........

Connections
Sounds like a connection problem, my 2012 RT did this, come to find out the dealer put the tender on wrong causing an array of problems for months. But I will agree with Scotty, but I could be wrong.

took battery to get tested....Battery good but needs charged..hopefully that is the problem..now I will have to see if my Battery Tender is bad, it is about 4 years old as well..maybe blown inline fuse and that is why it didn't charge the battery..we will see

I have a lot of battery tenders, love them, I did have one bad one that over charged a battery. The tender apparently didn't turn off and just keep going,it dried the battery out. Threw that tender and bought another with the new battery. It is possible for the battery tender to be faulty, yours may not be charging.

I know that mine's got a light up on top of it that indicates "something"... If yours isn't lighting; then check the fuse.

A blown fuse is never a good thing. Something makes them blow. There are always deeper problems to be discovered.

ok got the battery back in fully charged...now the bike starts right up but after a few seconds the engine consistantly keeps reving higher and higher, like the throttle is twisted..too high to shift into first on an SE5..anybody know what would cause that?

When mine did that I ultimately had to change the battery -- once it started that was the only cure!!!!

Went out today and she started fine and ran fine...now I am stumped.

When you change the battery is it a simple swap or you need to mess with electronics?

My throttle had a mega RPM at startup while at Hoover Dam on the way to Durango. Only did it once. The Nanny probably had a momentary brain fart.
