    Default fall down...go boom, boom

Apparently, my husband and I have a real knack for those "perfect storm" moments. You know the ones...everything that can go wrong does go wrong all in the same moment.

Just so y'all know.....that nice computer feature that keeps you from flying a wheel and falling over in a tight turn...it doesn't work in reverse.
Yep, that's right...we fell over in our driveway; backing out of the garage.
Hubby and I are both fine....not so much the trike.

While I was still on the ground, deciding if I could move...hubby thought I might be stuck under the trike so he used his legs (and adrenaline) to push poor Ruby back to an upright position. I missed seeing Gary jump up and chase Ruby down the driveway. By the time I righted myself, he was sitting in the ditch beside the bike which had run into a tree. Thereby being involved in two accidents within 60 seconds.

The point of my story is that, for the protection of yourself and your possible passenger, be extra careful when making a tight U-turn, in reverse, on a slant especially on grass and gravel.

    Default Oouch..!!

glad you both are alright. Backing reverse trikes is a touchy deal at best. Thats why they have the backup limiter on them. Thanks for the heads up though you could have done it without a physical demo.. do hope your bumps and bruises are all well now and the damage to your roadster is not too bad...be safe...

Default Delta Bicycles = Fall Over

Yep, never thought about backing up and falling over with a Spyder but we had a couple of what the bicyclists call "delta" trikes, one wheel in the front that steers and two in the back that are drive wheels and if you were going faster than a slow walk they would fall over in a turn. Got rid of those real quick and got a couple of what the bicyclists call "tadpole" trikes, two wheels in the front that steer and one wheel in the back that is the drive wheel. The tadpole trikes are much more difficult to make fall over at most any speed, going forward at least. Never really tested them backing up as the trikes don't have reverse, you just get off them and move them by hand.

A Spyder in reverse would be like a delta trike = fall over real easily...

I'm glad you two are OK, hope Ruby recovers!

Glad you guys are OK! One thing I try to do when stopping is to plan my strategy for leaving also. Sometimes, I'll forget being the old feller I am. Hope you get Ruby fixed up better than new.

Sorry to hear about your "Bad day at Black rock", but glad to hear you two are not to banged up. Give ruby a nice coat of polish after fixing her up.

Thank you for posting as somebody else said. It is real easy sometime to think the Spyder has the same stability as a four wheeler. I was told my 2010 RT does not have that limiter, but could have been put on as a BUDS update. I never wanted to try it it out and see, even in a straight line

Default Ah, how much did that lesson cost?

Just as in practice, I would have reversed without the passenger, as I have done in the past.
Thankfully it sounds like you are both unhurt, and the only pain is in the pocket book.

Please do be more careful in the future.
Like hindsight is a reminder you need right now. Sorry...

Thanks for the heads up about backwards facing Nanny... Point taken and appreciated.

I would be very cautious, i think Gary was trying to do you in (we know he is a wild man), I think he was upset because you were flirting at the hotel in the parking lot at the Owners Event in Colorado. I overheard him tell someone that he was upping your insurance and going to do you in (really). You do know that he used to be a Russian spy, right?

I heard that he used to have a girlfriend that fell off the mountain while riding a goat, suspicious accident????

    Watch your backside.

Thank you for sharing your "perfect storm" experience with us.

I have never thought about backing up protocols. Never thought that my "reverse trike" could become a delta trike and easily tip over.

I learned something new today, and hopefully, this will save me from a potential disaster.

    Thanks.
