Trunk lid - shock tip.....if you reverse charge through the trunk?
I didn't know this and thought passing it on would be worthwhile.
FWIW
Just replaced the trunk shock and a note with the new one says the shock, by design, is meant to be in the collapsed(closed) position.
Not being in the(collapsed) closed position will, in time, ruin the shock.
I have always connected a tender, and have always left the trunk open. < My Bad!

Interesting.
Some light aircraft utilize GasSprings as assist devices for emergency landing gear extension. Those are only in the compressed position with the gear retracted.
You would expect, with the GasSpring compressed, it would be more apt to lose pressure over time based on having higher pressure when compressed.

Hi Jerry, it is always good to hear from you! That’s interesting I recently replaced the struts on my trailer and I sometimes leave the lid open but it is the first time I’ve replaced them since I purchased it in 2010.

Eight plus years on your trailer struts is good, I think.

Good to see you are still around here....good to know though I had to replace the ones on the wifes Mini and my sportswagon and they do spend most of the time closed. Wonder if it makes a difference shaft up or shaft down....

Thanks, Like a bad cold.............I'm hard to get rid of.
Additional recommendations from the vendor.
To help extend the life of your supports we suggest using them as often as possible in that the seal will bind to the shaft and deteriorate with non use.
Also, open slowly so as not to tear the seal.
When possible the support shaft ( skinny part ) should be pointing downward when the lid is in the closed position.
This may not be possible for some applications due to clearance. And should not be done on the lift gate or hatch.

We are still at it, just got back from the PAC NW Rally in Winthrop, WA and we leave on the 5th for Deadwood.

Perhaps it's more to do with the shaft being prone to corrosion after the seals have wiped them dry when they're open.

Did the new one come compressed in the package? Every one I've seen in a store is extended.
