    Default Cruise control problems

2015 RTL. Most of the time, the cruise control works fine. Sometimes, no matter what I do, it won't come on. This happens anywhere from 45 mph to 70 mph. Whether I am in 5th gear or 6th. Any thoughts?

Are you touching the brake or turning up the throttle? Either will de-activate the cruise control. Also, if you have just shifted gears...then you need to reactivate.

Beyond that, I have no other advice.

Turning up the throttle will not drop you out of cruise control.

I had a similar problem on my 2011 RTS. I added a "helper" spring to return the brake pedal more positively. It did the trick.

It's more like an over-ride though. I think it goes back to the original setting after the pass is made.

At which point does it not “come on”, Baron? Do you not get the cruise control light on your dash when you slide it on, or does it not hold the speed when you press “set” ?

^^^ Aaaand, what Revs is the motor doing when Cruise won't 'come on'? Especially if your Spyder has the SE gearbox, the specific Revs/gear selection will effect Cruise Control selection.

Your CC can be set in any gear so long as speed is over 25 mph. Shifting gears automatically cancels CC and it must be reset. My CC is very sensitive; if I so much as bump the brake pedal it will cancel CC.

Next time it happens, I will put my foot under the brake pedal and pull it up and see if that does the trick. If it does, hello helper spring.

Why not get the Spyder up a bit where you can see and clean the brake pivot points and first see if that cures the problem. While I am in no way suggesting a helper spring might not be the way to go, if your CC problem has existed from Day 1, it is/was a warranty problem. If it has recently cropped up it's obviously the result of wear or dirt. I have 62.6K on the clock with never a problem. We're talking about two different generations of Spyders between ours and Grandpot's.

Got down below and sprayed some CorrosionX (used to spray inside aircraft wings to protect against corrosion. Also, the BEST lubricant I have ever found) on the linkage. Everything seems to working fine now. We'll see.

I got a pint bottle with a squirt top, not a pressurized can. I use it to clean and lubricate my weapons as well as, sparingly, on other items that need good lubrication. I bought the bottle about 10 years ago. It cost $12.00 then.

I had a similar issue and it was related to the third brake light I installed. I had it in the shop and the dealer said they had seen this issue several times. They disconnected the light and the problem is gone and has not returned. According to the dealer the show chrome third brake light has been causing can bus issues which cause the cruise control issues.

I too have cruise problems on my 2012 RT... press down to set it and it just goes to cruise off... then it may work.. if I hold it in the resume position [up] … it will work and I can alter speeds etc... Very irritating as it used to be fine!
