Default 40K miles so far - how many miles will a 1330 engine RT last?

In three years, I've put 40,000 miles on my Spyder, and I'd like to keep it running dependable for another 40-60K miles before I have to buy a new one.

I'd like to find out the experience of others in dependability and longevity after the first 40K miles for RT's with the 1330 engine.

It seems that you're just getting the bike nicely broken-in.

    Default LONGEVITY ? ? ?

Well it's a Rotax, so I think that's a plus. It's triple , a +, no valve adjustments, a +, and this engine is very under stressed from what I've read about it. So I think 200,000 +, without major surgery ........ jmho..... Mike

97,000 miles now but leaving in a week for a 5,000 + mile trip followed by a 1,000 then a 3,000 so by May 5th I should have 106,000. Then in June another 5,000 + to Valcourt. 2014RT-S SM6 with virtually no issues in 3 years. Does that answer your question?

    Default Just traded the wife's 15 RT-S SE6 at 43+

on a 16 F3T. After a clean bill of health and a week on the dealer's floor, it's been sold to the new owner and going to be enjoyed for many more miles.

It is looking like Spyder Ann is the current mileage champion on the 1330. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

Am thinking that BlueKnight is right on with predictions of 200K or better. At my current rate, I don't think that I am ever going to see that top mileage on my 's. No incentive to buy another (at this time) which would be #6. Very happy with my current selections.

I am amazed at some of the folks here who have many 1000's of miles. I just cant find the time to ride. I have about 1300 miles since last September. Of course have a broken wrist and hand doesn't help. I will also be down for a few months with knee replacement starting Monday. Oh well, its nice to know we have a strong motor.

I have read about your travels, but I never knew that it was a SM6. Are you still on your original clutch? That was my biggest concern about the spyder.

Yes, all of my Spyder's have been manuals. I like to shift, in 2003 I drove 12 hours to get the new Cadillac CTS with a manual transmission.

On my 14 I have had a slave cylinder o-ring seal replaced. I've had two things replaced on the shifter - recently the shift shaft seal and last year a thingy that made it difficult to get it into neutral.

You were, of course, right there when we bought this one in Henderson (my wife, Jen, says hello). Great to hear you're in the 100K range.

Just to clarify my question in general, I'm not asking specifically about the engine, as about the entire Spyder. (I just used the 1330 designation because it covers everything from 2014 forward, as they are generally the same design).

Default Haven't heard of any suspensions wearing out

Can't think of any other major systems on these bikes that I would anticipate wearing out if given a little care and preventive maintenance. As far as body and tupperware, they seem to hold together pretty well as the panels and attachment fittings carry over from the pre 2014 RT's and many of those have 100 K on them by now. An extra baggy of plastic rivets and some of the black screws and grommets should get you through 100K with no problem since now you only have service intervals every 9 K. Just be careful not to put too much torque on the little plastic tab screws and you should be good. I think I read 11 inch pounds once, but just snugged hand tight with a Torx 30 screw driver fitting (and a drop of blue locktite if you're so inclined) should do it.

2 year brake flushes keep the braking smooth, and I haven't heard of anyone wearing out a drive belt short of rock damage? YMMV.

I'm saddened that BRP dropped the manual from the RTS this year. I think I will have to keep this one until the wheels fall off

I had one of the hinges break on one side saddlebag probably because I had put too much weight on it. I try to stay on top of keeping it clean and keeping the black plastic pieces polished and if I have body panels off I clean as much under them that I can. I've replaced the mirror clips a few times as they take a lot of abuse especially if you take them on and off a lot. Everything works on it except for the fog lights and I haven't had a chance to tear into that to see if it is just burned out bulbs.

I have 51,000 miles on my 15 RT, so far only repairs tires
and brakes and one air bag. Seat starting to rip probably repair or replace soon. Have not replaced pulley yet, told it was good for another 10,000 by the Can Am mechanic.
