Default Top Speed of 2014 RT

Curious how fast you have been on the new RT? Did you feel comfortable at that speed?

I haven't finished with break in so I haven't been above 5000 rpm's and that was 98 mph. The RT was very smooth and I felt very comfortable with it at that speed. I've had it to 85 two up and it was just cruising along. I'm about ready for the 3000 mile service then I'll see what she will do. I'm sure there'e a rev limiter or some other device to keep the top end speed down.

Default Top Speed of 2014 RT

Well I had mine at 102 for about 3 miles. It felt very stable, I was more worried about getting a ticket or I wouldn't have stopped there.

100 indicated was fast enough for me, a couple times only. It's deer season forever around here.

In the, "Interest of Science"; I stretched mine out on a useful hunk of road. I wanted to compare it to my 2010 RT.
My OLD bike would get to 97 pretty quick, and then just sort of "finger walk" it's way to 100. It took a Looooonnnnngggg time to get there.
The new bike kicked it up to 97 like it was nothing, and then just grabbed another handful of speedometer, and was at 100 in about another 300 yards...

...And that was MORE than I needed!

    Default Interesting..!!

must be the extra weight and wind resistance that has you going slower. Still thought the RT's could do better. But then they are set up for touring...

    Nahhh...
Those of us on RTs just have more important things to do, than chase MPH numbers.

Well since my speedometer has a max of 200mph printed on it, top speed of a 2014 RT is 200mph, right?

Default I was just trying to keep up with them!!!

130 once, 110 another time, into the 90's more than a few times. all with my 300# slightly crouched behind a fully lowered windshield with the Eco turned off.

    Rock solid.

Then my common sense asked me what would happen if I had a blow-out...

Had mine at 103 and only pulling 5800 rpms. I think 110+ is possible but need a long straight stretch. Was very stable. The aerodynamics kind of make the bike squat at speed.

What I really like about the bike's speed is how quickly it can get to 95 mph compared to my 2010 and 2012. I cruised at 105 comfortably where I could see the road a mile ahead. I think the Cat delete and exhaust system change reduced my bike weight by over 50 pounds.. that definitely helped.

I was just curious how fast an RT could go, not that I ever intend to spend any time at 100+ MPH but it is nice to know it will get there. Thanks to everyone for the feedback.

    Oh sure...
Get all of us to admit to "excessive fun" on the highway, and then you get to ride on less-crowded roads!

Yup! It's fun to play with new passengers minds. You can reach 100 (kph) right at 62 (mph) and mess with them from there. Just point to the speedo (after you have changed it over prior to the ride).

Had a Yamaha Venture with the V max engine in it, back in the 1980's. Boy, was it fast. I did my speed test on a passing lane on Minnesota's North Shore Drive, and passed those cars like they were standing still. I am more conservative now though.

I'm with you. I had my 2010 RT up to about 98 mph for a few seconds and then let off. I think I've had my 2013 RT-S up to about 85 and that's it. Smooth each time, but I have no desire nor need to go any faster.

Change your display to metric and you can go a lot faster...
