Yes. It is against Federal law (Clean Air Act, as amended in 1990) and illegal in most states. If your state has an inspection law, you will get fanged. If you do not, then it is highly unlikely you will be caught.

For me it kinda falls into the same category as pulling the tags off a mattress. ....
