Resetting Shifter On SE5
My shifting has been a little rough in the early gears. Seems to be getting worse. I'll check the oil, though I just had an oil change recently and it was shifting fine.
A tech at one of the dealers said that they can reset the shifting points, essentially clear it out and have the computer relearn them. He thinks that might help smooth it out. Has anyone had this done or heard of it?

Ya, that's what the tech said. Have you had it done?

No as I have a SM5. But I have read here about others that have. Not sure if I recall if it helped or not.

you also should check your oil after the dealer changes it they over fill most of the time, ive had to drain some out ever time i let them change my oil.

Too much oil is as bad for the shifting as too little?

I'll bet that is because they check it cold. Manual says to check it at running temperature. It makes a TREMENDOUS difference. When I check mine cold, it was way down at the bottom of the dip stick. After heating up the engine, I found that it was significantly over full. Strange.

Shifting..!!
they can reset the shift points but if you have the se5/6 only. This would be the automatic down shifts. So like Bob said it's mostly about the oil..type, condition, filters etc. Also that issue of letting up on the gas between shifts on the semiautos. Remember oil condition also affects the clutch operation..!!

Dealer should know exactly how much goes in during an oil change! I always have 1/2 a litre give or take left over when my dealer or I do it, as they take 4.2 litres(4.4 qts) so if they are overfilling, they are not very good techs and not following the specs! JMHO!
