That isn't normal...
You're using the proper cable, and it's supposed to keep the IPod charged-up...
It's time to ask your dealer about it.
-
I will take a pic of it as soon as I'm feeling better...recovering from rotator cuff surgery yesterday. Maybe the cable I have is 1st gen and doesn't charge?

I know... You can certainly get down there for a little while; can't you?
(I've got several of my hunting buddies there...go page "Harvey Dickens", or "Jerry Beiling"! )

Does the iPod integration cable charge the iPod while it is in use?
I would love to spend sometime there and see what they have just for Instructors like me. I would likely just fall done from being pumped full of meds then being taken out by ambulance and still miss it all! LOL

Bob here is the integration cable I have that DOES NOT charge my iPod.
One end plugs into the iPod and the other into the Spyder trunk right side connector.
The music, playlist, album...etc all show up on the AUX screen when its selected.
It simply will not charge the iPod. Thoughts????

What year is your spyder. The cable with the box is the older cable. If you have a 2013, for sure this might be the problem. They changed the radio sometime in 2012 and after that there was a new iPod cable and it doesn't have the box in it.

I have a 2010 RTS SE5. I haven't put too much brain power into troubleshooting it due to having XM.

I would try and temporarily borrowing someone else's cable just for kicks

Everything seems to work "as advertised" except for charging. I can see and select different playlist, artists, albums ect but it just does not charge.
It just might be a bad charging circuit within the adapter but for $90 to get a new one.....it isn't that big of an issue.
The worthless CB is a whole other animal! LOL

The black box on the older cable is the circuitry for charging (converts 12V to 5V and has the proper iPod data lines telling the iPod to charge at a certain rate).
Audio just passes through it.
Later sometime in 2012 they changed the radio and put the charging circuitry inside the radio. Thus the new iPod cable is just a straight through cable.
Did your RT come with that cable or did you purchase it after? If you purchased it after, might be your dealer gave you the wrong cable!
Now here is the kicker! If you use the old cable with the new radio nothing will burn up. And I would think it wont charge due to having double circuitry. So this might be your issue. However if you don't have the new radio and you try the new cable, it might burn up your iPod because you will be pumping 12V (instead of 5) into your iPod. So I do not recommend you test that unless you want to risk your iPod.
What I would do it pull the cover off the right side passenger hand grip and write down the serial number on your radio. Call BRP and ask them what iPod cable you should have! Or maybe call them and they can look it up based on your VIN.

I didn't know BRP changed the charging circuit to inside the radio (makes sense).
When my broken wing is healed I will do just that....thanks Bob!

FYI so you know. BRP does not make the radio. Radio Sound makes it for them.
http://www.radiosound.com/
However calling them is rather fruitless. I have tried
They will do radio repair if your out of warranty but that is about all the info they will give you over the phone. The radio they make for BRP is under non-disclosure so they wont tell you anything and tell you to contact BRP.

on our 2010 rt it keeps it charged
-
Well the simplest answer is it sounds like a faulty integration cable. With XM and iPhone blue toothed in....not in a big hurry to spend the $$$ for a new one.
Thanks Everyone!

iPhone 5
I use the iPhoen 5 with an adaptor. Whenever the phone is low on charge I plug it into the bike and let it charge on the ryde. I have the 16 gigabyte phone and have close to 14,000 songs on there courtesy of the iCloud. Never miss a song, and I have access to the same playlists that's I have in iTunes. Love it!

14,000 songs at $1.99 each is ALOT of coin!
A lifetime subscription to XM (or Pandora) is cheaper! LOL
