The sad part is that there are so many obvious scams on e Bay , but the Co. Cannot seem to minimize them.

I actually have have just the opposite impression. I have been doing ebay since it's inception and have never gotten a raw deal. Maybe once an item wasn't exactly as described, but still a legit deal. So I am 99% confident on ebay, when I know I am on their legit site and not thru a link like in the first post. Always gotta be careful online!

However, with Craigslist, I have seen numerous fraud items. I am always very very skeptical of any item on Craig's List and I would NEVER buy anything unless I could pick it up in person.

I just feel feel like ebay has better control of the process from seller to buyer, and they have guarantees in place to ensure you don't get screwed. Craig's List on the other hand is a 'free for all' like the Wild West!

Safe shopping everyone and always, CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!

While Craigslist worked when I sold my pick-up, out of four calls I got, only one was for real.

That's because I bought it, and already mailed my cash (as requested) to him in Zambia. On top of that to sweeten the deal he is paying the airfare to pick it up in the United States.

It's been re-listed and if you go to eBay Motors, and search can-am motorcycles, you'll see it . . . there is also an eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection program to protect from fraud as long as you do the purchase entirely through eBay. . .

That's the catch. They mention the "protection" program, but if you do not buy it through eBay, in otherwords using Paypal, you are SOL.

Before I purchased my used Spyder from a dealer, I was looking around and found one that was being sold because they were being shipped to Afghanistan with the marines, and needed to sell it. It was located about 2 hours from me and I told them that I would have a cashier's check in hand with me and I would hand it over AFTER I see the trike and take it for a ride. They wanted to just ship the trike to me and if anything was wrong with it, I could ship it back to them and they would pay the return freight. Ya, right - bull**** alarm went off. So I played with the person and kept on telling them that I was sending them a cashier's check, and checked back with them several times if they had received it yet. It was SOOOOO much fun to play with them - after the 4th email asking if they had received my check, they finally gave up answering me.

This is a SCAM - and its seems like they like to prey on people looking to purchase a used Spyder and their hook is making the price way too good to be true.

The link in the first post is live, but it is NOT eBay. It is Melu.co.za which appears to be a web domain in Zambia.

Looks like a total fraud. Searching for that VIN on actual eBay turned up no result for me.

I clicked on the link and got " Melu.co.za and my antivirus ( Bitedefender) " Blocked the Page". Deanna777

I went one more step with whoever.....
"The spyder is already at the shipping company in Roxbury, MA. I asked them to allow viewers to go there and inspect the spyder but their reply was "We are not a showroom!"
Since this is an online transaction we need to have our deal registered at eBay. The spyder will be shipped to your address (shipping is free).
So, let me re-state for clarity to ensure you fully understand:
The money will be paid to eBay who will hold the money essentially in escrow, till you receive and inspect the spyder.
There is a 10 working day period allowing you to check that the spyder is ok, which commences after you receive the spyder.
In the unlikely event that the spyder is not as described / faulty / you do not wish to proceed, at any point during the 10 day period you have the ability to cancel the agreement, return the spyder (at my cost) and request funds back through eBay.
Assuming everything is ok with the spyder, at any point in the 10 period you will inform eBay so they can release the funds to me.
Please take into consideration that I receive the money only after you will receive the spyder and make sure everything is OK. If you agree with these terms and you have the money, send me your eBay user ID and phone number and I will relist it with a buy it now button and you will buy it directly from the ebay website.

There was a 2014 Rs stolen from Columbus Ohio area with 54 miles over a month ago so be careful of this . The serial numbers given to BRP.

Re: Craigs List. I bought my Spyder from CL. As long as you have good contact and the seller is willing to let you look, see, and touch, etc..... Then CL can be a good resource.
