Default What are peoples reaction when they see a Spyder?

I always wanted to know when people say to Spyder owners when at a gas station or at a red light. I noticed when I took mine out for the first time all eyes are on me at gas stations and red lights. It almost look like they wanted to say something but they never did. I am sure I will find out but since this is my first Spyder and I only had it a day. What I am I going to expect?

Since 2008 (the year of the most comments), I have had many people come over at gas stations and parking areas to look the (s) over. At stop lights or going down the highway, I usually get a thumbs up, a wave, or someone (hopefully the passenger) stick a camera out the window for a picture. All but one comment has been favorable. Usually they say neat machine, what is it, how much do they cost, are they hard to drive, etc. etc. The one off comment came from a biker type (all leathered up). He said--"looks like a snowmobile with wheels." If you think about it--it does.

    Expect everything.

From cool, to what is that, to I wouldn't drive that. I have had only positive face to face discussions. And be prepared to add 5-10 minutes to your ride if you stop anywhere, as some people will ask you all about your Spyder. Now I have been snubbed by some Harley riders - while I was at a gas station. It didn't bother me - I fueled up and took off, and left them in my dust. They tried to keep up but there was a turn that they could not take as quickly as I did - there was a lot of loose gravel on the turn.

Ride it and have an open mind. Most people will have interesting questions, some people do not like change and will not have anything nice to say.

    Welcome to the "in crowd".

    Enjoy your Spyder.

being fairly new riders we are still in the honeymoon phase of the entire experience. never fails to happen when we stop someone is either running up to us or pulling over in their cars for a closer look and an explanation.

had a guy yesterday who asked the strangest question. he asked sooooooo … do the front wheels turn on that machine or just the back wheel? I looked him in the eye and said well no the front wheels don't turn and that is why it takes me an hour or more to get home. the look on his face was .

i started to walk off and then turned around and told him the truth. my wife was cracking up laughing.

Cool The answer to the question is

I seem to generate one or more either pulling up alongside while stopped or in motion. From stares to thumbs up. Some even roll their windows down and Holler at you, "Nice, kool, pretty, Enjoy. to how do you like it."

I think the anwser you're going to get from most of us is,"yes get used to it!" I have had people walK UP TO Me IN parking lots. Even had one chase me down on the highhway and STOP me to ask questions about it. The one that tickled me th most was an older gentleman followed me in to the dealership, parked his car and came over to me and politely asked, "where did you get that?" To which I replied, "your in luck, go right through that door and ask for Jim!" He did and I think he eventually bought one.

A couple of months ago my wife and I were in Las Vegas for a short stay at the Luxor. I had a group of ten Japanese Tourists approach me at the front of the lobby and asked me about my RT and could they have their pictures taken with "Scoot3r". Two of them asked where they could by one locally so I sent them over to ProShop in Henderson. Wonder if they went....

    Default Pretty much ditto akspyderman

Lots of comments / questions when I would take one out in 2008. Most of those started with, "What is that!?" Usually how big is the engine, how fast will it go, and questions of that nature followed. With BRP's TV ads, and more being on the road, I really don't get so much of that now. Mostly now are comments so as, "That is really pretty". My 2012 with the tan seat really got lots. But I am looking forward to getting my silver ride on the road now.

    Default Let's see..!!

the most common as mentioned..how does it handle in the turns, is it good on gas, how much does it cost, how do you like it, do you need a motorcycle license to drive it and many more. You will get used to it but you will always get the unique questions worth remembering. When you do pass them along...one of mine is " how can you turn corners if it doesn't lean" you simply get off and swing the back wheel around...

We get all of the same questions, but when the dog is behind Teresa or up top when we ride together it's all about the dog. Not sure why, lol.

Have you been on the highway?

You are seeing a lot more of them.

    How much does it cost?

Is it Comfortable on long/ short trips?

    Do you lean?

How fast have you been on it?

What so you get for gas mileage?

Where can you buy a ?

    Who makes them?
I usually give the person a card ( that I got in the Welcome Packet from BRP) If I am in a driving lane,( they are turning to go either right or left) people say" WOW".

    Can I drive it?
How much does the insurance cost?

Coment have slowed some since more Spyders are around. Still get a lot, most fun a few twit, but ignore them.
One scene I did not/could ignore right after I got my 08 GS (later similar models called RS). Just getting a little dark out and my mirrors are full of flashing red and blue lights. As I was stopping I am trying to figure out what I did. I hit the kill swith with my thumb and waited. A local sheriff came up and informed I had bugs on my license plate. Then he started asking nice questions about the Spyder. I was nice and answered them. He said, thank you and left. I was thinking other things, but said nothing.
    Have fun and ride safe

Here in Oz where there aren't really too many of them around, stopping anywhere can add 20 minutes to my trip - EVERY time I stop!! Even at the traffic lights!!

Take the little dog as well (he's white, fluffy, and smaller than Teddy, with almost as much character! ) and I can easily make that 20 mins per stop into 40 minutes per stop!!

Altho sometimes I don't even hafta stop - got a Police Motorcycle escort up the freeway the other day, with both blokes taking it in turns to ride alongside and ask questions - somehow I think the local Cops might be looking into getting Spyder RT's sometime soon!
