    Default Seat air shock

2011 Spyder RT. Has a back rest and Rider Beads front and back. Air shock is just able to hold the seat up. Would like to put a higher LB shock on the spyder. Question is does anyone know what the original shock is as far as lb's. Or has anyone replaced with a better shock???? Thanks in advance.

Replaced mine with one a tad shorter in length from Pep Boys...works great. Just make sure the replacement is no longer than the original or your seat won't close all the way down.

Question: How "fussy" is the Spyder about the type of ends that are on the replacement strut? Is there a particular configuration that we should look for?

I took my OEM strut with me to the auto parts store and ensured the ends matched with the replacement. If I remember correctly most of the struts in the store had the same type ends as the OEM strut.

23lbs. I have a backrest and gel pad on mine and it wasn't enough to hold up when I was refilling the tank so I bought a 35lbs one and it's works great, I can even put my helmet on the seat now and it stays up. Love it.

I bought 18.5" 35# RV Trailer Bus Door Gas Strut Spring Lift Arm Shock Prop Rod 18" 35lb from "Strut-your-stuff-here" on ebay, it cost 13$ but you can go to any RV place and get them, I tried the auto stores but the ones they carried weren't the right length or lbs. This one works great.

It's great to know that there are other options out there!

Sure thing. O and I've seen some questions on the ends, just ask for Composite ends. They are what you will need.

I never thought about changing out the seat strut, D'oh! Is this the strut you purchased?: http://www.ebay.com/itm/18-35-Mid-Co...item5653b4ae01

BMWLarry has a thread about this in the General Discussion area... He went with a 30lb unit from AutoZone. He said that it has no trouble holding up the seat, the Airhawks, and the backrest...

I bought a strut that was the same brand as stock but 1/2" shorter and about 10 pounds more pressure from a place that sells truck caps. $18.00
