To Brake or Not To Brake....
Simple poll question. Would you like to see BRP put a front hand brake on the Spyder?
Let's say it would add $150.00 to the cost of a Spyder to put a front hand brake on every new unit. I think this would be a reasonable cost since the parts are already available. You just need a slave cylinder, lever and hose to the current master cylinder. A bit of engineering and you're done.
I agree that a front brake is not necessary, but neither are fenders or a windshield. When you get right down to it there are a lot of 'Unnecessary' things on our Spyders.
To be clear, the front brake simply actuates the current braking system. All 3 wheels brake just as they do with the foot peddle. The front brake is simply a 2nd (optional) point of braking input, not a separate braking system. So all VSS and Anti-Lock features remain fully functional. No learning curve, no need to ever touch the front brake if you so choose. Just there if you do decide you'd like to try it.

I'd like to have one...

I would like to see it as an add on option for the ones that do want one, and as a later addition if one desires, but in my personal choice, I am fine without it. Like you said, Ron, the current one offered by ISCI is an actuator so it really doesn't make a difference, but as an add-on later in the future is good to know it is avaliable.

Yes
I would feel safer using my highway pegs. So yes, I would like to have one.

Age Has A Lot To Do With This Requirement
The older you get the slower the feet and legs move. Much faster grabbing the hand brake while moving the foot to your foot brake. Still want the foot brake because along with slower legs comes weaker hand grip so you still need the foot pressure to stop quickly....
-
absolutely yes
No reason in the world not to have it. I would think legally BRP can not offer highway pegs without a hand brake. This should not even have to be a discussion point. But to answer your poll, yes.

If BRP offered it as an option I think it would be much more expensive plus cost of install. True, those that didn't want a front brake would not have to pay for one, but those that did would be looking at a much steeper cost.
My feeling is that may who think they don't want a front brake would actually come to appreciate it once they did have one. But like all opinions, mine is worth the going rate!

Many of us who have transitioned from 2 to 3 wheels, would probably feel more comfortable with a hand brake because it's what we are familiar with. It could be a positive thing. For others that haven't riden 2 wheeled bikes, it probably won't be a big deal. Personally, I really don't miss the hand brake but if the spyder came with one; I'm sure I would make use of it. Dale

Yes, some might argue the Spyder has one wheel too many too, but the 3rd one makes it safer... same logic applys for a front brake lever, a redundant safety feature. That, and volume production will bring the price of it down for the mobility challenged riders.

I'm not sure cause I haven't ridden a Spyder yet. That will happen this spring. My gut tells that if I had the option, I'd probably get it.

If it was an option, I would probably have it.

I think it would be great and make riding both on two and three wheels a bit safer for those with both vehicles.

FRONT BRAKE LEVER
RON...I think you should change the questions to include .....would you like this as an " OPTION "....right now it's the poll is the spyder either has it as delivered or it doesn't.....the buyer has no choice......??????.....Mike Personally I would like one, ....and I dis-agree if it was " optional only " that the the cost would have to be a lot more . This might be true if they were only to make say 200, but I think the number would be a lot higher......IMHO......Thanks for the Poll......Mike

I did that on purpose as the price of an optional brake would be many times higher than if it were production. Just like rider foot pegs or a dual seat. Some never use them but they don't cost much because they are installed on every Spyder. No one complains that they are paying for something that is not necessary or that they will never use.
The same brackets and dual seat would cost a pretty penny if they were options.

Yes! I think a hand brake lever would be a good thing from the factory. It would not be that difficult or costly when the cost is spread over all the vehicles. In an emergency situation you may not be able to reach the foot pedal.
