    Default Ontario newbie needs info.

    Hello. I use to ride sport bikes back in the early 80's, sold my bike to buy a house and start a family, 30 years later (last year) my son bought a crotch rocket so I bought a sport touring bike (Ninja 1000) to ride with him but now he is moving out west and his bike is for sale. I'm retired now and would like to do some short trips with my wife but I know she would never ride on the Ninja so I'm researching the Spyder.

    Should I be looking at the RT over the RS if we are planning on doing weekend trips?

    Is the Spyder considered to be a comfortable ride?

    Is it a reliable machine even with a fair number of KM's on it?

    There is a 2010 RT AC for sale near me with 43,780 km's complete with entertainment harness and CB/radio intercom system. All tires are new and the bike has been saftied. Does this sound like a good place to start looking?

    I know there are atleast 3 Spyder forums, is this the best one for a new Canadian to learn on?

    Welcome. The RT is the touring model and provides the most comfort for riding two up. If that is how you plan to do most of your riding I would suggest that you concentrate on RTs. I have a 2010 RTS-SM5 and have 38,000 miles on it. Mine has been relatively trouble free and I have no hesitations about taking long distance trips on it.

    Spyderlovers.com is probably the most active forum there is and if you want to learn anything technical about the Spyder this is the best place to look. I do think that there is a Canadian forum which may be mostly in French. Not sure on that though. Good luck in your search.

    You'll probably get varied opinions about which spyder is better for trips. Personally, I say the RT would be a better choice and yes, I own an RTS. It has more storage than an RS to start with. I can't address the comfort on an RS, but, my RTS is very comfortable. I've heard RS owners, say the RS's are also comfortable. If properly maintained, I would think the 2010 would be ok. I'd ask to see any maintenance records and you might want to have the spyder checked out by a dealer. My dealer told me about this site so I really haven't checked out any others. I believe this is the best site to gain info and have any of your questions answered. The people are terrific and many are very knowledgeable about spyders. The spyder is a good choice.     the RT is the best for the both of you. It's comfortable & safe. Watch out or your wife will want to get involved in the driving, also. There are a number of 2 Spyder families. Ride safe.

    RT sounds like the way to go for you.

    I started on an 09 RS and spent a ton of cash and time to make a sport tourer out of it and finally just had to admitt that the RT is the way to go for comfort, storage space and two up passenger amentities. If you factor in all of what you need to do with the RS to be a RT the price is the same. If you want a sporty local ride one up go for the RS

    I was going to go check this bike out in the morning but when I called the dealership it was sold 2 weeks ago along with a low mileage 2010 RS with the factory saddle bags, the search continues.

    Man you just missed the Ontario Spyder Owners Event rally about 3 weeks ago in Niagara Falls. About 100 + Spyder. RTS is the way to go .

    Just drove 45 minutes to get to the closest Can Am dealership and they don't even have one Spyder to look at...........WTH?!?!

    I know its not around the corner but I bought my RS and RTS from ST. Onge in Barrie . Another good dealer in Ayer Vincent Power Sports. I would stay away from Two Wheel in Guelph. All these dealers have stock.

    Thanks for the info on St. Onge and Ayer, why stay away from 2 Wheels?

    PS, how do you know they have stock?

    I know this is an old message but I was just at TWO WHEELS Motorsport?? today in Guelph and they had minimal two of each model in the showroom as well as a Limited for test rides out front.....

    Just curious about the Guelph location....I didn't get the best vibes while there but that alone wouldn't have been enough to avoid them considering they have a decent stock...that may be a reason why.....

    Had an RS did several comfort mods, custom seat and cover, 7" handle bars for a more upright riding position. Traded it in on a RT, best choice to make. We have done 600 mile days and could still move the next day. Get the RT if you wife will ever be on it, she will thank you for it.

    Default My wife loves the RS

    And we don't even have the backrest on yet. We have done 120 miles of very high speed mountain twisties and she does not like the look of the RT. we are 31. Maybe when we get older the RT will start to look sexier.

    My wife has no interest in driving just being a passenger . For me the spyder RT is the best for riding two up , the seating position is very comfortable for both the passenger and the driver. Some find the leg position a bit hard on the knees but I find the position comfortable. We have a spyder 2010 RT-S SE5 , SE5 being semi auto shift another words you shift up and the bike will shift down for you or you can do the downshifting too. I am 48 yrs young and if it weren't for the spyder I would not be riding a bike as I have neck problems and balance is an issue and using a clutch since my left hand is weak from nerve damage caused by my neck injury.

    This is the best forum to learn about spyders and fellow spyder lovers are awesome people here and are very helpful !! Its great to see a fellow Canuck on this site too !!

    I live just a block away from 2 Wheel Motorsports and I drove 45 mins away to buy my spyder in Ayer Ontario from Team Vincent Motorsports . TVMSports is a great dealership they are a full service platinum BRP dealer and have a customer first attitude as where the other one has a don't bother me attitude and poor workmanship . I have talked to a few people who have had their spyders serviced at the other dealership only to have problems down the road. Having a great dealer makes the spyder ownership experience that more better.

    Down your way I have talk to people who have had great service from Beida's Powersports the owner 's name is "Butch"

    We have had our RT Limited since May and My wife says it is so comfortable on the back.I think if you are going to do any touring the RT is the way to go. I took my course on an RS and it was a blast. If I had the money I would have one of each!! One for going out and just having a blast and one for touring, which is still lots of fun!

    Unless I'm mistaken Guelph is not too far from Courtland (maybe 60 miles). Reason I say this is Lockhart's Odyssey in Courtland treated me really well when I had a breakdown while traveling through Ontario a few months ago. At the time they had a lot of Spyders in stock, both RS and RTs. Might want to check them out. Here is the thread I started about my dealings with them on my breakdown.

    You are correct, it's not that far....I've made arrangements to ensure that my business travels take me into the London area in the next few weeks where I will stop in to see them.

    I was at 2 Wheels in Guelph and did speak to them about rentals and test rides. I was told that I can take one out for 30-45-60-75 minutes...I was told that if they weren't busy with people booked for a test ride that day, that I only needed to check in from time to time and let them know I was okay.....but I do want to visit Lockhart's Odyssey - any place that can provide that quality of customer service is worth a shot at taking my money!
