Extended Warranty second thoughts?

I have had my Spyder RSS for 10 days now and at time of purchase I was talked into an extended warranty (72 month unlimited miles, kicks in after factory warranty expiers) even though I think EW are a scam and rarely pay off. What I was wondering has anyone ever purchased an extended Warranty and after thinking about it changed their mind about it and then asked to cancel it for a full refund, is this possible since it dose not take effect for two years will I be able to cancel. Any thought or past experience would be apriciated. I paid $1200 for Warranty after looking at paper work $1000 went to Warranty company and $200 to dealer. I was thinking about asking about this when I take my Spyder in for its 600 mile inspection. Thanks in advance for any good imfo. or advice.

Did you get the BEST or BEST Plus warranty? Either way whether you keep the bike or perhaps unexpectedly sell it, the extended warranty is a good thing to have. If you need it for repairs, or, as a tool at sales time. Should that ever happen. If you haven't bargained with your dealer for a parts and acc. discount you should - say 10% - even more if he'll do it. Then you can slowly recoup the two hun. Just my 2c. jer

No its called Open Road it is 3 years more protection than BEST Plus but does not cover any maintenance costs and has a $25 deductable. My thought is if you pay for an extended warranty and never use it you should be entitled to some of the money back.

I don't think a 20% take by the dealer is unreasonable. I'm sure the dealer made money on selling you the bike as well. Dealers have to make money to stay around..this is fine.

I think you got a great deal for a 6 year warranty on top of the 2 year one that it comes with. Your bike is covered for 8 years for 1200.00 and you're complaining? One major issue and that 1200.00 will look really cheap!

You got a great deal...as far as extended warranties go, they are a great way to go on expensive vehicles. I would rather waste 1200.00 on an extended warranty than take a chance that in 8 years nothing is going to go wrong with the bike.

I would keep and get every warranty you can get, but I ride mine harder than others, there is no such thing as getting money back on a warranty that has already started, you pay it in advance and its like insurance, you pay for it and just because you don't use it doesn't mean they will give you your money back because you were lucky and didn't use it.

Great points Seth...I'm with ya...best to have a warranty and never use it...if you have to use it all the time, you'll likely be in big trouble when it runs out and you have problems.

What do you do when you're away from your dealer and need a repair? What other dealer is going to do the work under a warranty they have nothing to do with? Or, do you send the bill into your warranty company?

I'm thinking that even if you do get to send a repair bill to the warranty company (when repaired by another dealer), they probably have a schedule of repairs with max. limits.

That being said, I can see an extended warranty as a good item on the Spyder. The spyder is a very expensive machine to fix and the $'s can add up quickly on any repair or multiple repairs. This has happened to a few unlucky owners.

I would recommend a warranty that is accepted by all Can-Am dealers. If you get a localized warranty, you are probably in trouble. It is common practice that once sold, the warranty is not refundable. If you really want a refund, you need to talk with the dealer sooner than later--the worst they can say is no.

Like snow removal contracts - Ask if you should get money back if it doesn't snow very much and the contractor has every right to ask "would you pay more if it snows a lot?"
That is what insurance is all about, I would say!

As for the extended warranty.... YES I think the peace of mind is well worth it. There are so many computer modules on the RT-S that is there is only ONE problem the warranty will pay for itself. It is also a great selling feature if you decide to upgrade and get another bike (as I did). I think they are more worthwhile as the bike is first introduced. As a rule, I would be less likely to get it as the technology is proven. with my '08 RS.... It just made a lot of sense. With my '12 RT, maybe less but for an extra $1000 (3%) I think it's a no brainer (Heck I gave the Government 13% and didn't get anything for it from them! LOL

I bought an extended warranty on a flat screen TV when flat screens were a new thing. The reason I decided to get the warranty was that if I didn't use it I got back 60% of the cost at the end of the warranty period. I didn't use the warranty and bought a new washing machine with the refund. So there are some extended warranties that give you a refund if you don't use them unfortunately ABC Warehouse doesn't sell Spyders.

I can't imagine being able to get a refund, unless it is within 3 days, where some states allow a "right of rescission" clause. If that were the case, you would have signed a form with the purchase.
I too am not one to purchase any extended warranties. Being that the Spyder is totally new to me, and with so much expensive computer module stuff on them, I will be getting the extended warranty on mine. That will be the first one I've purchased in 25 years.
That being said, I think it is something to not look back on, and ride on with confidence in knowing you have lots of miles and years ahead of you without major repair costs.

The price you paid for the extended warranty sounds like a good deal. Knowing that you can buy the Best warranty from a forum supporter for $749, but it is 2 years less than your coverage, I think $1200 is a fair price.

The only down side to your plan is that you probably have to get all of the work done at your local dealer. I'd check the contract to see what happens if you need a repair when you are away from home. Maybe you have to pay and then send the receipts to the warranty company for reimbursement. If that is the case, it is a hassle, but still not a bad deal.

If the warranty is only for your local dealer, it may not be that great if you ride out of the local area and you can't use the warranty at another dealer if/when you need a repair. The other downside is if your dealer goes out of business, you probably won't have a warranty any longer.

My .02 cents the ext warranty to me is like health insurance, sure hope don't need it for a big issue, but sure is nice if u need it. All things break down spy is no diff.
