Thank you spydrn for posting this....you beat me to it! Yes indeed this is so very sad and Denise and Mitch were members of my spyder riding group here in Austin. I had only met them two weeks prior when a bunch of us got together and went on a breakfast ride and I had taken pictures of her on her beautiful red spyder! I just learned of this awful tragedy last night when I got home from work and it has hit me very hard. They were such proud owners of their spyders and had only had them for a very short time. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and I would like to have a memorial ride to remember her.

This is one of those tragedy's that's so hard to understand. After reading the story I don't see how they could have done anything no matter what gear they were wearing. I'm so sad to hear this and know that it could happen to any of us at any time. This is one of the reasons my wife doesn't like to ride as she has a fear of this very thing, she trust my driving but it's the other drivers on the road she doesn't trust and I can't argue that point.
This is a sobering reminder of how fragile life can be. You can choose to to avoid all life's risk and hope for the best or you can live life to it's fullest day by day. My heart felt prayers go out to Mitch and his family and all who were involved.

Tragic Accident
I was with Denise and Mitch that day taking a 3 wheeler training course in San Antonio. They were on their way home after the course when the accident happened. Mitch is on SpyderLovers as MitchPW. I will never ride my Spyder again without thinking of Mitch. Stay strong, my friend.

This is really sad. I echo Lamont's comments, this seems like a thing that couldn't have been avoided. I'm in the same position, wife trusts me and not the others on the road, which I can't argue either.
I met Mitch and Denise a few weekends ago at a local Spyder meet up and we had an excellent time. Denise was very excited about her new Viper Red RT and Mitch just got a RS-S. She was a very nice woman and even though I only knew her a very short time, I am glad to have met and known her.
My heart goes out to Mitch and his family. He's a great guy and this is terribly tragic to go through. We have a very good community here and I hope we can help in any way we can.
God bless.

Thanks for details. Very sad indeed and unavoidable. Even in a car this would have been a very serious situation. Good reminder that this can happen to any of us at any time.

This is definitely a tragedy that was totally avoidable. Where was the driver of the dodge pickups attention when the left turning car was hit? Cellphone perhaps, daydreaming? My condolences

Prayers, best wishes and hopes for the Family. Not much else to be said, that has been said already.

Such a sad and tragic accident... it is very likely that the driver of the pick-up wasn't really "driving" at the time he struck the station wagon. Something he'll have to live with the rest of his life...

Prayers for Mitch & family.

While I do not know these folks, I am sorry to read of this accident. My only comment is Hwy 281 is always dangerous. After leaving Marble Falls going south there are two lane, four lanes with some left turn lanes. I was on Hwy 281 yesterday coming home from breakfast. I ride this highway often. I am always more alert it seems, as folks drive very fast on this sixty miles into San Antonio. If you ride this area, use extra caution.
