My only question is does the noise frequency follow the RPM evenly or change with gear selection
Jim
The noise sounds the same if its in neutral or any gear. Slight changes in pitch between 3000-4500 rpm's. My best way to describe it is kind of a squeak/Ducati dry clutch sound but not as loud as a Ducati....Thank god

I do not expect the dealer or BRP to give me the world just what i paid for. a Reliable machine!
Whatever happens i will update you all on what they find.
Thanks to all that have given advice on here. It is much appreciated!

Hopefully they'll find the culprit without having to get too 'deep' into things...good luck and hope you're on the road soon...

My 08 m5 was making the same noise [dry clutch sound] Been doing it for a week or two, I kind of known it was the clutch but i got stubborn and kept on riding ,
This morning the sound stopped,
The clutch blew up.
20 Miles from home, Luckily my Son was home today and picked me up with my trailer. Back to my my En-6n till it's fixed.

I do like the fact that the dealer and BRP is being proactive in dealing with this issue. I myself would have been reeeeeally hesitant to let them just tear into the engine like that. However, The ball is rolling now so I guess we will just have to stand by and see how this all plays out. I think starting with the "peripheral" stuff and working from the outside in is the best approach at this point now that the "go" decision has been made.
Best of luck to you, Jack. Hope it works out for the best.

I'll gladly endorse the crankcase cover/clutch approach. That can also show signs of heavy metal debris in the engine, without risking a complete teardown. If they find no clutch problem, or find metal debris in the engine, you can negotiate again. Best of luck to you and your tech!
-
I agree don't let them tear it down! Make them replace the motor or a new machine.
Depending on your dealer they do have pull with BRP my dealer, Here in Wisconsin Robs performance can make BRP do anything!
He made them deliver my wifes spyder special only thing on the truck!
It's all who you know and how to make it happen.
Good luck

But Scotty, that would show up in the filters, surely?
The best substitute for brains & knowledge is....................silence.

Not necessarily. The filter itself traps the debris inside, and few cut apart their filters to inspect. Large debris never makes it to the filter, and aluminum debris is not collected on the magnet. Several people have had removal of the clutch cover reveal evidence of metal and extensive damage.

Also have them pull the oil tank screen and check it.......
Spyder #1 - 2008 GS SM5 Premier Edition #1977. RIP after 80,000 miles.
Spyder #2 - 2012 RT SM5. Traded in after 24,000 miles.
Spyder #3 - 2015 F3 SM6. Put 13,000 miles on and sold it.
Spyder #4 - 2017 F3 SM6. Too good of a deal to pass up!

Unlikely...a company isn't just going to fork over a new engine or bike without taking a look to find the problem. I think in this situation, they have a good plan...it's reasonable...

Two Bros Duals
Or a Thrush glass pak should take care of any engine noise!(my bad)
I agree on no engine tear-down on an almost new engine.

Thought i'd give you guys an update. Took my Spyder to the dealer the other day and dropped it off for them to troubleshoot the engine noise. Got a call a few days later and it appears they have found what is causing the problem. I guess there is some sort of pump in or near the tranny that runs directly off of the crank. Well the bearing had excessive play and alot of metal shavings around it. The dealer is going to replace the part and we shall see. Good news is they did not have to split the cases or disect my engine. i'll let you all know if that indeed was the problem.

Great news and Thanks for the update

I have also noticed a sound from the left side of my 2011 SE5. I think it sounds like the heatshield vibration you hear on cars sometimes... Will mention to my dealer when I take it in..

i cant help you out with the problem but if it was me and it was my bike i would see if they can get me a loaner bike to use till they fixed mine. it wont be yours but at least you will be able to ride while your bike is down. OR if you are making payments for the bike see if they could take care of a payment or two for you.

It's not a big deal right now. I also have a CRF450 dirt bike so it's time to kick up some dirt while the Spyder is in the shop. I just have to remember to put my feet down.
