Two Pounds of Pressure Less, and WOW

I've been running 20# in the fronts of my RT-S and noticed quite a bit of steering shaking at certain speeds.

Today I lowered the pressure to 18#, and all shaking is gone.

What a difference 10% less made. If you're having any steering shaking, try experimenting with the tire pressure, it sure made a difference for me.

I've been thinking about dropping a few pounds on mine as well. Currently I am running 20/30 but I think I will drop down to 18/25 next time I go out and see if that feels better. At 30 my rear center is wearing just a touch more than the sides.

The wear on the center of the rear tire has nothing to do with pressure. The center expands at higher speeds regardless of pressure. I only got 5K out of my first 2 rears.

Man, I have 6.5K on mine and they hardly look worn at all. Hoping I don't have to buy tires on our cross-country adventure next mont6h.

I would think that the key word here is "recommended". I am currently running 20 psi in mine, not saying that I will stay there forever. I like the way it handles at this pressure, though I may do some experimenting. When I had the 600 mile service done, the dealer lowered pressure to 15 psi. My bike didn't like that at all. Might try a little under 20psi though, just to feel it out.

YES BUT the tires minimum air pressure is 15- MINIMUM?

I don't understand why front tire pressure should be so sensitive to handling. However, when I first complained about the "twitchiness" (?) everyone reccommened more air, so I tried 20psi. If anything this made it worse, before we left for OK/AR last week I lowered it to 17. This seems to have made a big difference, feels more stable. I'm not exactly sure the tire pressure made the difference, right now my rear shock isn't, and my auto level/ride height air system doesn't. Once those are fixed maybe I can tell if the pressure reduction really did make that much difference. If it does maybe the air pressure monitor would be a good idea.
