I know I dread the southern side of Chicago and going through Gary, IN for traffic but we are going to try to time it so we don't hit rush hour. I have never taken that route to St. Louis so we thought we would do it just to switch it up a bit. Also, it all depends on if I get my room for a penny or not. I am a Red Roof Inn member and they are having a special but you have to catch the hotel at a certain hour and time to see if they have a room available for a penny. I will be trying various locations and that could determine our route. I know it is silly but hey, if we can save $50 it is well worth it. It will be good to see you there. When are you leaving? Are you driving alone?
I was going over possible routes with a good friend that lived in Chicago for 15 years and still drives that way a lot and she said while it may be 'quicker', it's more stress due to the traffic. Best time to go through that area is around 2:00am.
On my way back I might take that way and try and save some time since it's going to be a loooooong day. I'm taking her I-pass just in case....
I'm leaving Thursday after work-- not sure exactly when. Going to get 3 hours in and then stay somewhere. Going to play it kind of loose on the way down.

All-
The Super 8 has rooms available and is offering a 10% discount if you tell them you are in Cuba for SpyderFest U.S.
The Wagon Wheel Motel has posted a welcome to Spyders on their Facebook fan page--they are in the process of renovating, but have a really neat shop that is currently open.
www.facebook.com/pages/Cuba-MO/Historic-Wagon-Wheel-Motel-featuring-Connies-Shoppe/330673145518
We have a Facebook event page set up, but will be prettying it up this weekend and I'll post that before the end of the weekend. We'll use this to post pics, status updates and video throughout the weekend!
Also--CubaMOMurals is on Facebook and Twitter.
The local paper will be running something in this weeks paper to let the town's folk know we will have an infestation of Spyders and they don't have to call the exterminator. There will also be media coverage of the weekend itself.
We'll have banners up around town!
welcome

May I make two suggestions for this event:
1) Post in advance a couple of key cell phone numbers, in case someone gets lost, changes plans, has mechanical problems or other emergency.
Perhaps Gene and a CowTown contact, at a minimum.
2) Can we get name badges, simple stick-on labels and a marking pen would be okay.
Thanks.

Gary good ideas
Ms. Virginia will have stick-on name tags for our SPYDERLOVERS alias's
Friday night at the Holiday Inn and Saturday at registration. You will also get your real name tag lanyard for comparison.
Now instead of asking
WHO'S THAT LADY IN THE RED DRESS
She will have her alias and real name for quick ID
Phone numbers
Holiday Inn 573-885-0100
Len at Cowtown 800-258-6898
Gene's cell 314-541-5969
Holiday Inn normal check in time has changed to when spyder riders arrive.
unless housekeeping has not finished.-----In that event a secure room will be set up for luggage you may want to drop off.
Wheeler yep its Thursday-----so leave now----its easier to wait here than at home.
SomeGuy's priorties ------
stay home and work are come to the Rendezvous and play.
How hard is it to decide.
Firefly you need to talk to him.

It's been awhile since I have posted but Deb you are correct, although I pray that the weather will be in our favor I can't help but think that no matter what Mother Nature has in store for us that week-end its gonna be good, lets just hope that it's not as hot as when we all did the "Missouri Express" with you and Brian.. I'm getting about the whole week-end.. See ya soon..

As Gene said last June some Missouri Spyderlovers wanted to get together and someone suggested the annual USO Run to support the troops. Seven Spyders made this event and grabbed most of the attention both along the route and at all stops. We made friends with each other and found out we all spoke the same language (Spyder Language). We parted with a feeling of "Wow that many Spyders in one place, what fun". This event in Cuba has the potential to top that little get together 10X over, and probably will. Not only is Len of Cowtown humbled by the turn out, but I think I can speak for the rest of the gang and say we all are. Here is a link to a thread with some good pictures of the USO run I know there is a lot more out there but this is the 1st ones I found.

And probably one of the best pictures I remember is this one and if you join us in Cuba next weekend I think you will see most of these faces again.

Fanning 66 Outpost Welcomes Spyders
http://www.fanning66outpost.com/
We thought this might be a really great photo-op for the group and it's one of the stops on the itinerary. Unfortunately, we can't get up in the chair (the fire department does that for folks as a fundraiser in August), but a bunch of Spyders around the base should be pretty cool!

3. If you wanted to ride by yourself, I have a local friend with a moped. I'm sure they would let you borrow it. We'll let you start the ride on Friday night and maybe you could meet us all for breakfast on Sunday morning.
4. Send an 8x10 pic of you and I'll make sure to be your "official" photographer for the weekend. I promise to catch pics of all the "fun" you are having--the rocking chair, Rt 66, giving Gene a hard time, enjoying a babycake at the after party, and the country club breakfast the next morning.
I'm there for you! Just let me know, I sure don't want you to miss out
This is probably the funniest post in this whole thread. If Irish don't get a picture here in time maybe we can find one and blow it up to 8X10.

dogbeer
You may want to enlarge the Chihuahua on his shirt----I believe that is the famous Guinness Smithwick sitting on the table----as I recall he kept adding from the Coors Light can--- so just one would last all night.
I have no objection if you want to crop the picture into an 8x10 of the dog beer.

The Coors Light can was there because the rest room was too far away. Won't tell you where I emptied it
